Shatner is currently scheduled to be on a Blue Origin rocket and in space next Tuesday.

I want to see how smart Blue Origin will be with this. A week-onky lead-up time leads me to believe they're already bungling a one-in-a-lifetime marketing opportunity.

They should have been building this up for months. The promos alone that Shatner could have done, with funny captain's log narration and such...

the fucker is something like 94 yrs. old and has a bad wig. if he punches his ticket in flight, it's all on them.

I hope he's learned something neither he nor the production people seemed to get in the TV program--to use a seat belt.

Yay! So cheesie a program, looking back, but so very, very inspirational. I hope he has a grand time.

I wish I could be more excited about this. Just seems like a cheese-y PR grab for the billionaires. Look we're sending Captain Kirk into space! Isn't that cool? No, not really. Just more billionaires profiting off the burning of the planet.

Fuck both of them.

So taking split infinitives to entirely new heights.

Yeah, there seems to be an orgy of rich people blasting themselves into the upper atmosphere, just so they can wear astronaut uniforms, take selfies while weightless, and pretend they went to outer space.

Meanwhile, back on the surface of the only planet that we were adapted to live on, we can't even allocate enough money and attention to address existential threats. I agree, fuck the billionaires and their prolonged adolescence. Many of them have become a major part of the problem.

I was thinking these same thoughts when I read about it and I'm glad I'm not the only one. Seriously, I wonder just how much atmospheric pollution one of these joy rides produces — just stupid IMO.

Meanwhile, the UN is in meetings trying to get a grip and commitments on how to resolve our problem with the warming of Earth. I fear the love of money will be our collective doom  What use will the coins and paper be when it's too late to curb the irreversible doom?

Since most humans are fucking intolerable right now - and seemingly proud of it - it's hard for me to fault anyone for wanting to get off this planet for a few minutes or days if they have the means to. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

His version of Space Oddity is one of the most unintentionally funny things I've ever seen.

Shatner is a much better actor than OJ. He killed his wife and actually got away with it. :)

It's dumber than that. The Enterprise couldn't function as it does without an internal inertial-dampening field -- otherwise acceleration to warp, or even the impulse-power speeds, would turn the crew into a film on the bulkheads. Nobody on board should even be shaken when an enemy weapon strikes the ship.

It's not that they can, but they are able to at the expense of the rest of us.

shit...never thought about that. Wonder if any of the later contemporary series addressed this issue beyond creative license, the writers for ST tend to be super anal on the background geek mechanics and physics.

that's pretty much the rationale gist of all wealth worship and lust. :(

I have no problem at all faulting someone for frivolously ripping off prospects for future generations. They are doing this shit almost exclusively for entertainment and vanity purposes, at a time when we actually need shining examples for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Fuck these celebrities. If they want to get off the planet for a few days, let 'em take acid.

seriously. fuck them.

and fuck him in general. he's an absolute prick.

If they want to take a thrill ride, they can go to a theme park.

Sorry, folks - I was being glib. It didn't translate.

The space exploration part is super fun, but the circumstances and avenues to it via these profit monsters are decidedly shit.
