Just thought the folks here would like to congratulate the three Climate Change scientists who have just been awarded the Physics prize. :)

I've come to care about that as much as the Olympics, a lot
of sports, athletes, awards shows, entertainers, talk shows
and their hosts that have become acutely politicized.

I can see why you wouldn't care about the scientists.who developed models that connect humans with their observable impact on climate.
-----------------------
It's cool to see how each built upon the other to tie in natural and human caused impact on weather and climate.

I'm sure this has meant just as much to the predictability of short and long term weather as well.

A model is a foregone conclusion coded to give the desired results.

I can see how an ideologue would love any model (or poll)
that fit their personal political prejudices...

That's just basic human nature.

That's the new Nobel Prize.

So since you're so respectful of science when are you going to admit women have a uterus???

Or are you a transphobic Nazi... REAL women have a penis!!! :D

That is not what a model is, at all.

Really? Because that's what my job was.
I know exactly what the fuck it is.

The only difference is that I was doing real science
with real math and real-world testing to further
the development of things like the Internet and WiFi.

Climate is too complex to completely model,
assumptions must be made and some variables
completely Diffy-Q'd out of the equations.
So, yes, that is exactly what their model is.
An exercise in delivering to the people who will pay
the big bucks for exactly what they want to hear....

There's a helluva lot of that that goes into the soft Sciences
and the newly-established "Science" of climatology is SOFT
and prone to be politically directed in order to earn a living.

I earned my living by developing things that actually work in the real world.
Their models can be soft to accolades whereas my models had to be hard and true.

The prevailing climate models that inform the IPCC have proven to be remarkably accurate at forecasting the past.

You do know the "model" is like 120 years old right?

Awesome work done by Manage and Hasselman.

With 11 species declared extinct in the USA this past week....it's sobering news when considering what is happening to average folks in the US and across the planet.

I guess our climate denier's here will take it seriously when, like masks, they are put on an energy quotas, can't find the foods they like to eat or have to pay high prices for them, pay more for insurance as rates skyrocket due to "natural" disasters and when they witness mass migration internal to the USA what.will they say....Dems fault for sure.

As with hurricanes evacuations, there is always a few who don't head the warming and then they are on 911 calling the rest of us for help.

Exactly.

You do know the "model" is like 120 years old right?

Then why are so many of them so bad at future predictions?

I'll give you the main reason(s).

The climate is a (mathematically) chaotic system, i.e., a continual feedback loop
so the modeler has two main problems:

1) Properly identifying the strange attractor(s) and
2) Getting the initial conditions

So now because you have two problems since so many factors determined the
system's bifurcations that you need a super-computer with advanced AI,
(technologies significantly less than 120 years old) then maybe you might
get lucky and identify them all and properly model them but without knowing
the initial condition to feed into your model, you still might get bad data from
a perfect model and then discard it. What we have now is a system where these
untested and newly minted modelers, keep going back and tweaking their models
(and if you're Mann, you even fucking hardcode corrections) to correct their
misses and them proceed as if the next set of results will be correct and those
who truly want to believe will accept this as "settled" and undisputed Science.
It is not. It is a set of theories with false strange attractors and the people who
built models to confirm their new secular religious beliefs; they want it to be true
and the people who fund them want it to be even more true and they virtue
signal that in every single budget cycle/battle.

However, the builders of this model should be rewarded to being over 120 years old.

Citing extinctions is post hoc ergo propter hoc,

and that's all I have to say to a layman of the church.

They just will blame the socialists and prevent 'others" from voting

Why are so many of them so bad? In the long run they are not THAT bad and its just there are things we had no way of knowing or that went in slightly different directions than expected. But you don't ignore something where what someone said in 1901 (I think) would be happening and its not perfect but its happening and dismiss it.

The danger of being a "literalist".

Often originates out of zealous religious beliefs.

Leads them down the road of judgement.

Poor suckers!

ue.

Your insinuation was that these models were created only with the desired conclusion politically.

Yes, climate models are complex....and these three physicists made those models more precise and accurate because each model worked together to more precisely predict the future state.

Idgaf what you say your job was. If you're accusing members of the scientific community of falsely doing their job, your conclusions are full on shit.

Declaring climatology a soft science makes the hard/soft science distinction pretty worthless, and seems politically motivated…

With zero carbon atoms?

You must be stupid...

Chump, you're embarrassing yourself again, and doing so in the context of claiming that only you can evaluate real scientific models because the models you developed are "hard and true".

How's that model for predicting the carbon content of water molecules going over in the peer review process?

Wasn't this the moron that said water was organic? If not...he defended the moron. Just trying to rub his face into the fact he knows NOTHING about anything scientific

Applause to scientists working on enabling continued life on earth.
