What's the deal with the Pandora Papers?

Why now? Conspiracies welcome.
My take is it was Chinese hackers x lots of shit on the Russian and Indian companies, bit of middle Eastern crap out in the open, a couple of African dictatorships that resisted Chinese influence?

Why now? Because of the gross disparites of wealth and financial corruption during the pandemic. These hidden funds and their unpaid taxes could be used for economic recovery during and after the covid pandemic.
My first thought was Chinese hackers but the Panama papers were leaked to a German journalist. The documents were leaked from the law firm Mossack Fonseca. The person even offered to help prosecute the people named. I'm guessing a disgusted insider. It's got to be hard knowing the corruption that exists amongst the wealthy and sleep well at night.

In the words of John Doe:

Digitize the Revolution!

...and rightly so.

the striking thing for me, was that many (Arabs, Indians, Russians -- not necessarily Brits.) were using UK properties to evade taxes.

HEY actually --believe it or not-- South Dakota is where the dirty deeds happen
This WaPo video is so good:

Arabs love Britain, its all that rain so I can see why UK properties were used. ;)
Surprisingly little mention of Americans. I'm guessing their financial system is already so corrupt they don't need off shore tax shelters. :)
I'm leaning towards a John Doe in South America as the whistleblower.

I'm also starting to think that the OP is right,
according to WaPo, this was a concerted effort by "the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, "The Washington Post and hundreds of reporters around the world".

Unlike Assange's and Snowden's isolated acts.

Do you think it has to do with the fact that investigative journalists are worried about both income inequality and about how the rich are trying to muzzle freedom of the press via Assange? So they came together secretly?

This follows the leak about CIA's attempt to assassinate Assange. Assange is due for a hearing shortly, whether they'll extradite him to the US or not?

Washington Post just spilled the beans:

This is the link to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists site, who organized the reveal.

As CTs go, that ain't exactly a scary one.

CBC reported that the documents:
were leaked by a confidential source to the Washington-based international Consortium of Investigative Journalists.

Majority of media outlets are owned by a handful of magnates. Major International News Agencies United Press International, Associated Press, Reuters and Agence France Presse provide over 90% of foreign news published by the world's newspapers. In the US alone there are only 15 people in control of all news media outlets. All 15 are old white guys. I'm just glad that the Consortium of Investigative Journalists exist and I'm impressed with their efforts to coordinate the release of the information.

lol you sound just as excited as I am.
I called my parents who had no clue! our news did a hush hush, which is a tad weird

But the fun part is that America and UK are over-represented there alongside the most corrupt third world countries India Philippines Pakistan and South America

Nobody from the Eastern half of Europe, other than Putin and Zelensky,

How embarassing for Britain and the US. :D

Paradise papers, now Pandora papers. How many more sets of sensitive secret papers beginning with P are there going to be?!

On the Corruption Perceptions Index, the U.S. actually ranks pretty well -- but not as well as Canada and the UK, which in turn are more corrupt than the Nordic countries.
