1:17 PM, both House and Senate chambers had been locked down as members began
to be moved to secure locations. At 1:26 PM, the Capitol Police ordered the evacuation
of the Capitol complex.

At the same time, the thousands who had already surrounded the building were
assaulting police with clubs, bear spray, and flagpoles, tearing down the last
barriers, and driving Capitol Police up the steps. It was just after 1:30 PM
when the suspected bombs were found at both the RNC and DNC headquarters.

Then, at 1:40 PM, Army officials received an official update from the Department
of Homeland Security (DHS). That update:

“There are no major incidents of illegal activity at this time.”

The breach of the Capitol building was just 13 minutes away.
