How long do you leave up your pics?

A lot of threads here have broken photo links and missing attachments. In some cases that may be accidental or due to lack of storage, but I've also noticed that some folks (particularly the ladies) deliberately post and then take down their photos relatively quickly -- maybe within a few days, a few weeks, or sometimes a few hours. I was wondering if anyone who does this, or has thought about doing it, could share your reasoning. E.g., is it due to anonymity/safety concerns? change of mood? did you decide you didn't like a particular picture? or is it just because you can?

I'm asking because I might . . . be . . . considering . . . posting some more photos of my own, and would like to be sure I am thinking this through from all angles (so to speak). Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts and experience.

Thank you for the reply. When you say "simplified" do you mean that you just post them and leave them up without giving it further thought?

I hadn't considered that the role that feedback might play here, but that makes sense (ie., if the photo does not spark the type or volume of comments you were hoping for you might consider removing). I was puzzling more over the scenario where someone posts a pic, many other posters rave about it, but then it is quickly gone and others regret having missed it.

I’m not going to speak for others. Lit was once more an engaged community and feedback was easier to come by.

As for simplified, I try to keep only some pictures up at any one time. That’s just how I am.

I’m hoping others express opinions. I’m thinking it’s easier to post now coupled with the lack of feedback creates doubt.

I might actually leave mine up if the feedback was there.

As previously said, I think comfort level is the main factor here on whether to leave them up or take them down. I just leave mine up because I don't worry about it too much.

I used to have my own thread years ago. At the time. I left my pictures up.. Always.
But over the years, with so many people getting their pictures stolen, while mine aren't really steal worthy. It just became safer to remove them after a short time.
Now, it depends on what I post. If it is my face, I don't usually leave them as long.

Most don't even show face. But I like my face. So I am just a little quicker to pull those.

I also watermark my pics. It has been shown to me how easy it is to remove water marks. (user names basically across the picture) so I realize in most cases. That doesn't matter, but I still do it.

The way you have to look at lit and posting pictures (especially as a woman)
if you truly don't want it out there. Don't post it. Guys will admit to saving pictures to tribute your pics, or keep for masturbation fodder.
So if you don't care. Post away. Enjoy yourself.

Like MG said. This used to be a much more engaged area. Lots of people talked, lots of people hung out in each others threads, people supported everyone. Now it is very competitive.

Just proceed with caution. But enjoy yourself.

It depends how comfortable you are with the picture and sharing it.
You should take precautions.

As for me, I used to have a pic thread.
Luckily, it is buried so deep that I don't have to worry about it.
Plus I'm a guy, so it's not going to be as sought after.

I agree that in the end it personal comfort must be the deciding factor, and appreciate people voicing that. No one needs to have a specific reason for taking a photo down. I guess I’m trying to gather information that would help me better assess my level of personal comfort. I want to remain anonymous and already know that I will not be posting any photos with my face or easily identifiable backgrounds. So I’m trying to figure out what the other specific risks/worst case scenarios there might be. Or if there are reasons other than risk (as MG identified above) that I might want to factor in.

Sassy hit the main risk I’m aware of, which is that the longer the photos are up, the longer they are available for others to use as they see fit. It is helpful to consider what some of those specific “uses” might be and how I feel about that. (Someone downloading a pic for their private collection, I probably don’t care. Someone re-posting my photo online would likely make me more uncomfortable. Etc). The points about where one posts (dedicated thread versus random thread) are also interesting to consider.

I will ponder all of this a bit more as I continue to explore the AmPics forum and Lit more generally. Thanks for sharing the wisdom of experience.

Mine are linked to my Mr.'s cloud server and to keep traffic to a minimum (at his request) I set the expiry date at about a 6weeks. Videos usually less.

We started posting pics of the Mrs under my account this spring on the thread "Pic Thread for Mrs Openmymind". One of my initial desires was to leave the pics up since I always hated to get to a thread just after the poster had taken her pic down. Several I followed over the years always left the preponderance of their pictures in tact and I found that to be very useful as one could go back and look at the full body of what had been posted over time.

As far as I can tell, there's been no downside so far in leaving her pictures up. The upside is we get new commenters who say they've been through all her pictures and love them.

All that said, the Mrs still feels funny leaving the pics up. I think it's a natural feeling of being over exposed with little control over what someone might do with a picture (e.g., sharing them elsewhere).

I haven't removed any of the images I've posted so far. Don't really have any plans of removing them or anything. I have pictures out there whether they were posted by me in those places or others. Guess I just don't care all that much. I wanted to actually give a nice reply here but I suddenly don't have much to say. :/

That’s the best answer I’ve ever read. It’s all about the face , to do , or not to show your face , the best body part we all have …

Besides other stuff , like , this as a example , mixed in with self expression photos of whatever pleases you.

Right now i rarely posts pics and when i do i only leave them up for a few days based on the popularity of them.

I haven't given it much thought. It seems after a few days photos get buried deep in a thread and comments cease on them. I know a lot of guys probably save them to jack off and I have received a couple tributes in PM's which is not really my thing but whatever!! Besides all of that I'm not real sure how to take them down? Maybe one of you can PM to me the instructions or which photo posting app to use for that? Thanks.

I haven't really taken any down yet, bar a couple where I was tapped on the shoulder for being a bit too pink.
Like ML, I have to option of linking them in off a NextCloud server, but part of the fun has been doing direct posts and having to reduce the size and dimensions down to be under max as well complying with the not too pink rules. Hence by my standards anyone, they are pretty tame.
I've always considered that I will just pull the whole lot if anyone ever pisses me off. Fortunately noone has stepped over that line on an Ampics thread yet so they remain.
I just stick to my own threads and a few group ones here and there that appeal to me. I got so far behind on the ABC thread that I keep waiting for it to get back to A again to join in! As long as there is some banter and a bit of discussion it continues.

I leave mine up for 1-2 hours. Reading the other responses, I seem to leave them up the shortest amount of time. But that's what I feel comfortable doing. I don't know if there's any etiquette involving the posting of pics of yourself or expectations of users. Barring that, I'll keep following my instincts.

Sometimes I only leave them up for a few hours (face pics particularly) and other times a week or so. Unless of course I forget I put one up.

There really is no right or wrong. It is really about your individual preference. Glad you have enjoyed my pics as well.
