So we're seeing some actual research now on the efficacy of Moderna and Pfizer Coronavirus vaccines in preventing "breakthrough" Delta variant infections.
The score:
"major" is defined here as "requiring hospitalization".
600,000+ cases studied.
Scientists are now trying to determine if this is primarily because the Moderna vaccine requires a 4 week period between first and second injections, and Pfizer only requires a 3 week period. They're trying to determine if the one week extra between doses builds up a stronger antibody base.
The score:
- Pfizer: stops 88% of major Delta variant breakthrough infections
- Moderna: stops 93% of major Delta variant breakthrough infections
