My speculation would be to avoid someone editing a question/issue after it's already been answered potentially making the answer wrong or confusing to someone reading it later on.You can never edit posts in the Technical Forum. Don't know why.

I doubt what went missing will ever get restored. My guess is the site had to roll back to a previous good hold point, and recovered from there. But the last thing they'll need will be thousands of individual queries. You do realise there isn't a giant back room of tech staff at Lit, just a couple of people, maybe?
