I have written erotica for several years and beginning to post here. I have run into something I haven't before: anonymous comments that seem like trolls. The first story I am posting features Interracial BBC. I know BBC is a porn thing but it is popular for many. I have received a few very negative, harsh comments from 'anonymous' readers explaining to me how BBC is non-sense. Yes, but this is ALL fiction and porn. When a story is tagged Interracial and BBC, why do they do this?

If you've run into this, do you confront them on just not reading stories they don't like or ignore them?

If I think they are unfair to the story or just coming from my regular stalker, I delete them. The Web site gives you that ability.

Haters will hate and let everyone they do.

I shut off Anon comments. It is something you can do in your authors profile.

"Seem like trolls..." lol. You need to read in a bit on Lit trolling. Unfortunately, it's an art form of the most undesirable kind.

Some writers see trolling comments as a badge of honour, others consider them the same you would dog turds on a lawn. Delete and ignore, don't give them oxygen, don't feed a troll, is my advice.

I especially love those complaining "your MC's actions make no sense", don't give any examples what they found lacking and end up telling me "better clean up you shit", displaying both a lack of courtesy and basic spelling. I'm depressed enough already as is, so I just deleted that one. A rarity for me. Fuck that guy and the woman who whelped him.

Welcome to the internet, where you're free to be a total bastard without any consequences.

i'm sorry you had to go through that, but it's everywhere here. Yes, it's all just fiction, and you'd think some people would suspend some belief and just enjoy the story, but some of them will pounce on you for anything they see wrong.

The best you can do is ignore them, never respond to them. And remember you have the ability to delete their comments if you feel like it.

You could write the Bible, and somebody would troll it. Get used to it and either delete or turn comments off. Personally, I only delete the really ignorant ones now.

I never turn off anonymous comments.

Trolls hit and run. They’ve had their bit of fun, hopefully, annoying the person who has spent a considerable amount of time writing the story and they’ve moved on to another victim. They may return to see if there has been any reaction so if you are going to delete the comment wait 2/3 days and then do it.

It’s very rare I’ll delete an obnoxious comment, unless it’s really bad, and I’ve had other readers spring to my defence.

I would never turn off anonymous comments because the good people heavily outweigh the bad and it’s nice to read compliments. That’s when you think all the hours you’ve put in have been worthwhile.

I see no reason to wait to delete a comment you want to delete. Let them see they can be erased. The next comment can be erased too. There's no reason to cater to them or be guilted into any submissive behavior by them at all. Erase away, if you wish.

Each to their own. Choice is available to everyone in a democracy.

Pretty obvious that troll commenters would want to guilt the writers here to leave the troll comments in place. They might even come to the discussion board to push their guilting.

You want to explain that?

What's not to understand? This is not a new topic here. Over the years the balance has been moving from guilting on the board of those advising just to erase the comments that bother them, with some posters being really heavy on "you're a wimp if you don't leave them there," more to "do as you like."

You've just posted "to each their own," apparently dropping the "wait two or three days," so I don't see where you have something to argue about.

Stop it, Keith. You tried rattling my chain when I first began making comments. It didn’t work then and it won’t work now. Stick to Lovecraft. He rises to the bait every time and vice versa.

If you think I've bothered to rattle your chain about anything, it must be your defensiveness. I found your "wait two or three days" comment off the wall and troll supportive because of the comment, not because of who made it.

Okay.

My pet theory is that if they don't see their name and comment in lights, they don't get the thrill. I delete the nasty ones instantly for that reason.

From their point of view, they may figure the site is deleting them and quit.

As I said...a theory! :D

I had an ANON post, "total shit story," which I deleted. Later, ANON asked what happened to his post. I never replied, but I thought I might answer with a stand-by I used to say when Dad asked, "What happened the lamp? Why did it break?" or something else similar, "I don't know," I said.

Though I knew full well, it was our cat or dog or the two together. I had this fear; between my 14th and 18th birthdays, my folks didn't really want me. The reason I ran away so much, I suppose. There was something very satisfying when my father came and found me and took me back home.

Do not, I beg, cast into darkness all "Anon" writers. :)
I'm not keen on plastering my name all over the place.
When I make a comment, I usually limit it to a simple 'thank you'
and leave my 'HP' mark.

Thanks for the comments. Basically what I should have anticipated: a full range of approaches are used. The first one upset me and I deleted it. Then, I got several more similar on other chapters. Don't know if it's the same person but it reads like it. And, no, I was not inferring that all anonymous commenters are the same.

Thanks, again.

If it read like it was the same person, more than likely the same person made them all.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I can no longer find where in the website I can delete a comment. Can you tell me where it is? Thanks.

NEVER MIND. I FOUND IT. :)

For those of us figuring out the site after a long absence...how do you delete a comment?

If you mean a comment on one of your stories, go to "My Home" (your home page) and select "Works" from the list on the left. That gives you a sortable list of stories with three icons off to the right. The two speech bubbles are the icon for comments on the story. Select that icon and you get a list of comments, with a trash can icon off to the right. Select the trash can to delete the comment.

If you mean a comment you made, then you might be out of luck. Maybe you could PM Laurel or the author and have them delete it.
