This orgy of overspending confirms the un-deniable fact that Americans are obscenely overtaxed. There is no doubt that the goal of government is to compel the citizenry to rely on the government for all their needs from the cradle to the grave. My state and local government does not hide this fact. The China Virus attack is an element of this process. Control and dependence.

*poor Americans

Rich Americans haven't really been taxed since the 80s

No worries though, the tax cuts for all of us expire in 2022

Yes, Americans are overtaxed....we pay way more than any other country that gets barely anything in return for those taxes.

Most other civilized countries actually pay more taxes than Americans and they get:

National Healthcare
National Education
4 to 6 weeks paid vacations (Holiday)
Social Safety Nets for the elderly and retired
And most of all...they get the peace of mind that comes with a more planned society that stability creates, something Americans have never had.

PLanned societies are great...if you're part of The Plan. If not, well, life can be a little trying.

About 60-65% of what the Central State does is simply take a dollar from one pocket and plunk it in another, skimming off a healthy vig for itself.

This is the dumbest shit....

Can't tax what people don't have IL(D)Umbass.

Rich people pay most the taxes.

Poor people don't pay shit.

Despite all the Pub talk of "fiscal discipline," federal spending as a percentage of GDP has remained at the same level, about 30%, since the 1980s. Pubs do sometimes keep their promise to cut taxes, which grows the deficit, but never spending, not significantly, because depriving the public of the things all that spending pays for would be political suicide. And nobody ever dares touch the defense budget, which is certainly a lot larger than it needs to be to keep the country safe, and seems lately to be more a jobs program than anything else.

This is a problem too.

Another reason most the buuu shit should be kicked back to states.

Which would then come under political pressure to increase their spending to provide all the things the federal government does now.

So net public spending would not be reduced -- would probably rise, because pushing functions down to the state level would sacrifice economies of scale. I don't see the point.

You get a powerful military with cool toys to make you feel all big and tough...

In 1980, the top 1% contributed 19% of total revenue collected by the US Treasury. Today they contribute 40%.

Like most leftist, IL74 is either knowingly perpetuating leftist lies, or is a useful idiot who's actually bought into the lies other leftist have told him.

"Rich Americans haven't really been taxed since the 80s" LOL, what a fucking clown.

it is true

the amount of money that is taken from working people to fund all manner of stupidity never ceases to amaze me. the model of govt that is set and followed in all levels of govt is simply criminal.

as a prime example, in my little town......in my rural little county.....the annual budget is a 900 page document.....it used to be you could download a copy of it at any time....but now you have to go to an office and pay $30 if you want to get a copy......

a couple of striking examples.....a few years back.....a study of trees in our small capital town.....$600,000. 95% of everyone in town could tell you what all the trees are, when they were planted etc......but a child of a commissioner got a "grant" of $600,000 to study the damn trees!

in another identical case of nepotism.....a commissioner's nephew who owned a tiny asphalt company got a contract to widen the shoulders of the roads by 1 foot throughout the country.......price.....over 10,000,000 .......now he has a huge asphalt company....and the county has an extra foot of asphalt on the side of the road

it is ridiculous unnecessary bullshit of this nature that has ruined this country....as far as taxation goes.....rather than seeking ways to cut costs and reduce taxes......it is like drunk sailors on liberty hunting ways to spend more and more and more money.......never does it cross any of their greedy minds to have true zero based budgeting and cut the damn costs of govt and govt programs....its always spend more and more and more and tax more and more and more

What's obscene is how many manage not to pay anywhere close to their fair share of taxes. You know, the Donald Trump people.

This seems like hopping into a bad faith discussion with a bunch of unhinged people but what the fuck.

1) "The rich pay most of the taxes" only makes sense if you count in terms of sheer dollars and completely ignore the ultra-rich, who mostly pay negative tax rates because their accountants play sophisticated games with money that allow them to claim no income and also claim eligibility for benefits designed for the poor, like tax credits for kids.

2) Americans pay extremely low taxes compared to most other rich nations.

3) The point that we get next to nothing in return for our tax dollars is correct and a reason why the IRS is wildly unpopular. If you look at a breakdown of your tax bill, most of it is going to corporate subsidies and the military, which is why our infrastructure is severely outdated and falling apart, our schools are failing, we have the worst health care system in the developed world, and public services are practically non-existent. But this isn't an argument for Americans being overtaxed. It's an argument that we live in an oligarchy masquerading as a representative democracy.

4) Thinking that the poor get a free ride is a good indicator that you have no direct experience with poverty in the US. Everything is more expensive for the poor. You have to pay higher upfront housing costs than the upper classes. All your bills are steeper than the upper classes. The system actively punishes you for being poor. And you have to subject yourself to Kafkaesque bureaucracy to claim the paltry benefits the USG offers to offset that in a post-neoliberal age. AND all this happens despite the fact that you actually contribute more to the economy than the upper classes BECAUSE you are constantly hemorrhaging money just to survive. The system is built on your back.

1. It certainly began in that country.

2. Nevertheless, to call it by that name is to proclaim your own idiocy.

I think this virus is a bioweapons attack against humanity that is intentional. You cannot look at the net effect and conclude otherwise. Even if this were not the case, China bears responsibility for the damage caused by it. Even if it was an "accident" at a laboratory conducting demonic research for nefarious purposes, or in the unlikely event it occurred at a disgusting wet market, China bears moral and financial responsibility.

Everything you stated is perfectly understood by non-Deplorables.

The bad faith offerings invariably come from the RWCJ who have a sociopathic agenda to maintain the corrupt American status quo that you so eloquently outlined.

It's the main reason they don't want things like CRT or even the basic history of wealthy white institutional racism / classism taught in schools.

Too bad, so sad for them. The times they are a changing.

Please cite your evidence to show Americans are over taxed.

Please also cite your evidence to show federal, state and /or local governments are over taxing to create dependence and control.

This article is older but it also provides a good perspective of how little the U.S. wealthy pay in tax compared to 1) their annual income and 2) their overall wealth.
