Stands to reason - you know Free Markets and all.

It's the "free markets and all" that the Cuban regime and their sympathisers ideologically rejected remember.

You mean force evil racist capitalism upon poor poor Cuba the progressive shit hole??

LOL

They don't want to trade, that's racist evil capitalism bubba. :D

No Communist country ever balked at foreign trade for that reason. Well, except for NK, which is rather a special case with its juche economic-autarchy ideology.

Trading with communists makes their government rich, not their people.

No, China is the proof of what he is saying though. :D

Actually, the boom since the 1980s has lifted many millions of Chinese out of poverty. It has also, of course, created a most un-Communist class of business millionaires. If the same happened in Cuba, who could object?

Boom from what? Engaging in the racist evil capitalism. :D

Uh hua....

Anyone who doesn't believe buying slave labor from mass murdering authoritarian dictatorships is a good thing to do.

And I wonder might what happen if those millionaires ever emerge as a power bloc independent of the Party.

Well, I haven't heard of slave labor being used in Cuba, except in the sense that the state is the only employer available for most people.

AIUI, cigar aficionados will pay top dollar for black-market Cuban cigars.

So, there's one bloc that would vote to end the embargo.

Otherwise, Cuba produces . . . sugar, I think . . . which would compete with Florida's . . . We'd better keep the embargo!

We were the only country with an embargo on Cuba. Just about every other country in the world has done business with Cuba. Many of them just refused to do business with Cuba, because Cuba couldn't pay up, meanwhile Cuba wanted to continue receiving goods on credit, while not exporting much of anything in return.

When Obama eased some restrictions, it didn't help the people. Hard to find items became more scarce because they were being saved to sell to tourists who had foreign currency which locals aren't allowed to have.

It has also, of course, created a most un-Communist class of business millionaires 'in China'

I have added 'in China.' to the quote for clarity.

This statement is incorrect or at best incomplete. Firstly, nearly all Chinese Billionaires are members of the CCP; Secondly many members of the CCP are Billionaires or at least very wealthy, without having any history of participation in business at all.
Emperor Xi himself is an example who used his party position to acquire great personal wealth.

They have nothing to offer. <shrug>

Hey, I have an idea: We could offer the communist dictatorship a tankful of gas for the Presidential Edsel in exchange for that cop-killing BLM idol Assata Shakur. How about that?

Maybe a new fender for his 53 Chevy.
