We had one like that in NZ.
Name of Paula Bennett. she was a solo parent, raised her child and put herself through university whilst receiving welfare benefits and Govt funded student support and allowances, had 100% of her tuition paid for by the Govt.
Became interested in politics, joined our equivalent of the GOP, got herself elected to parliament, eventually became the politician in charge of the social welfare system in NZ and proceeded to slash and burn allowances and benefits paid to solo parents, and unemployed and sickness beneficiaries, forced those under age 25 to be supported by their parents, stopped solo parents welfare assistancet once the kids started school, denied them access to student support like allowances and tuition fees, forced them to take out tuition loans if they wanted to study. She was widely called Paula Benefit by the public. Established a spying network that encouraged neighbors and associates to dob in a solo parent if they had a boy/girlfriend stay overnight and they would lose their welfare assistance.
She eventually rose to be our equivalent of Vice President, before being unceremoniously dumped by the voters at our last general election.
She now sells real estate.
