I have an old desktop that I built for my ma a couple of years ago. Reasonable processor and ram. Thinking of setting it up as a NAS. Anyone use Plex as the 'ware or prefer something else?

Ahem...
Plex is the shit. Get a lifetime pass and use their guidelines. It's important and there's a wealth of info on Plex.tv.
Depending on if you're gonna watch 4k and/or REMUX versions, that desktop might not cut it. Get a used Apple 4K TV/Roku/Shield for your client I also run a neat little proggie called "MrMC" which I use when Plex doesn't tick the right boxes.

Initially at least it's gonna be running 1080 and music. I have a couple of 4K TVs but next to no 4k content on HD.
