Is it permissible to mention in a story that a person lost their virginity before they were 18?

Sure, but the event can't be described or eroticised.

In most cases, you aren't getting much out of mentioning that she isn't a virgin. You can simplify the problems by skipping all that. Most readers will probably assume an over-eighteen character isn't a virgin.

Yeah, what NW said.

The last two stories I posted have both been sent back for things that weren't what they said they were. Things that a year ago would not have been questioned. Things are tightening up.

Given all the recent report, I was surprised that my Nude Day story wasn't sent back. There's nothing underage in the story, but there were things I could imagine that Laurel might want me to explain.

Didn't happen.

I've noticed that. I've rewritten a section in my current story to erase a line about the girl being lighter than the old bloke's grandkids.

It's not really needed, and I don't want any hassle.

Yes you can. I've done it a few times and I've seen it in plenty of other stories also. Just like what a previous comment mentioned, as long as it's not described or eroticized, then it's ok.

Also, another rule you should know in case it comes up, apparently you can't artificially age an already known fictional character. I recently had a story sent back to me where I had Suberboy (who is 16 in the comics) have sex with Wonder Woman on his 18th birthday. But even though I made him 18, I was not allowed to artificially age him because he is currently 16 in the comic books. Apparently they did their research when I submitted that story and saw his current age.

You also can't use characters from current copyright material.

Isn't 18 year old Superboy Superman?

Actually you can. I wrote five Wonder Woman stories and there are thousands of stories in the celebrity/fanfiction where copyrighted characters are used. This is considered parody so it is allowed under the first amendment. This is also why they are used in comedy shows like SNL when they make jokes about comic book characters.

I just post to sites with lower age limits if there is no way around it. I'll always be on Lit, but this endless nitpicking about character's ages is tiresome. Lit does what it wants and I do what I want elsewhere.

I suspect a tighter computer algorithm might be kicking out perfectly-acceptable stories based on single words or phrases. Of late, if there is any question of 'under-age' (eg a reference to a character's 'childish attitude') I've included a note to Laurel in the submission form. I've had no problems.
