Huzzah! The star ratings average on AN UN-CONVENTIONAL ROMANCE has finally overcome the early 1-point bombing I got to put me over the 4.5 threshold and earning the HOT tag. Very nice! :D

Nice!

Mine keeps creeping to 4.5, then immediately gets knocked back down to 4.48 or so. I knew some folks wouldn't like it, and that's fine. C'est la vie. :)

You got my 5 - and I usually hate romance novels/movies with a passion for exactly the thing Tia did. But even if I disagree with some plot points I can see the effort you put in and your skill as a storyteller. By the way, there was enough Magic talk in there to satisfy the nerds without overwhelming the uninitiated. That's not easy to do.

Mine's climbing... slowly.

I was expecting that. It's a weird story. I'm not sure even I would have given it a 5. And the title isn't a great choice for attracting readers. I knew that going in, but in the end I just couldn't abandon it.

Thanks, Blind, for your kind words. I knew it would take some abuse for that very reason (plot events), and that's okay. My next couple of stories will probably be more crowd-pleasing.

BTW, I'm halfway through Rotten to the Core, and loving it! :) Will leave some words when I finish.

Sometimes, you just gotta write the story you want to tell, and not worry about the rest! :)

The NEW tags have fallen off and another GPD is in the books. Thank you, Chloe, once again for organizing it. My weird little fairy tale might never have seen the light of day without the event to motivate me. Right now I'm sitting on 3.9k views and 74 votes, which I'm sure is far more than it would have attracted on its own.

I've managed to read a whopping six other stories, and I haven't seen a bad one yet. I plan to carry on until I've read them all.

I've read half a dozen now and while some haven't been my cup of tea, they've all been decently written and more importantly, interesting.

I've often thought geeks have the best sex, once they escape high school, and this would support it.

I'm sure I'd never have got 10k views for a sort-of First Time story without this event, (nor 60+ votes, nor ever got round to posting the story) so thank you to the organisers.

My turnout has been worse than in previous years. 4.2k views is barely twice of what my regular stuff gets and a far cry from the 32k views last year's story got. Maybe having the title start with "R" wasn't the best idea. Also, I got a surprising amount of 1s despite the sex being a lot tamer than usual. Sadly no comments to go with the 1s. I'd love to know what people didn't like.

Still, not the worst first attempt at Urban Fantasy and the commenting public wants more. They shall have it. Eventually. :)

I'm torn on what to write next. Something that follows up on one of my geek pride stories, or maybe one of my other previous works? Something new? Something fantastical, or something more realistic/grounded?

Decisions, decisions....

Speaking of which, I’ve got a question. At what point did you decide to put An Un-Conventional Romance in Novels? How did you know it should go there?

Well, it's 90k words, that's the length of a full novel -- and it covers a lot of different genre territory, so novel/novella seemed the logical fit.

That second part answered a personal question. Thank you! And nice job, too, by the way.

"An Un-Conventional Romance" is actually the first piece of erotica I ever wrote, back in 2016. It came out rough around the edges -- not enough conflict, I make things too easy on the protagonists, and it's got some structural problems. But it's a full-length novel draft, the first I ever completed of any genre.

I've been sitting on it for years, and decided that it was time to stop being perfectionist with it and deem it "good enough" to publish rather than never show it to anyone, or take the time do a total overhaul on it.

Hey that’s great 😀

And I now have one that’s half done for next year. Lol

Glad everyone seems to have enjoyed it - and that we made it onto the Literotica front page this year. Working my own way thru the stories and enjoying them. So thanks everyone for contributing 🤗

Thanks for leading it, Chloe! It was a fun event, and I've enjoyed reading a number of the stories. I was very pleased with the reception on mine, with almost 19K views, about 500 votes, and around 15 new followers, a huge change from my last two tales. There was that one irksome, negative comment from a person who didn't continue reading when the lead character hit rock bottom before making the turn, but the rest of the story is still there if they ever decide to continue reading. :)

Well, just got an interesting comment on mine. It boiled down to 'good story, but not t consistently geeky enough and, oh yeah, I don't like girl-girl, so it's just a 4'.

OK, clear, polite, honest and not anonymous. I can accept that.

Ya cain't please all of them and maybe I can do better next time.

Don't worry about the "not geeky enough" feedback. Gatekeepers like that who feel the need to make those sort of qualifiers don't actually care about your knowledge and approach, and will always keep moving the goalposts. It's about them trying to bolster their self-confidence by demeaning others.

Or to put it more bluntly -- I would've told that guy to go fuck himself with a rusty chainsaw, but I've grown less patient with snobs in my advancing years.

Every freaking time my story hits or exceeds 4.8, it gets one-bombed. I don't believe in conspiracies, but this has happened four times now, like clockwork. With almost 120 votes now, it takes more than just one 1* to knock the score, but knocked it is.

What the literal fuck?

Yep, same for me. Every time it heads for that red H it gets knocked back. And it's happened 4x.

I see what you're saying, but nah, this commenter identified himself, was polite and explained his reasons. I don't expect everybody to accept everything I do as perfect and feedback like this is OK by me. YMMV, of course.

One-bombing is a sad fact of life and doing it for 'strategic' reasons is like cheating in solitaire, but the only solution I can see for it is limiting votes to people who have signed up for an account. Manu, one of the owners, said just a day or two ago that that ain't gonna happen. Their site, their call, but it's an annoyance.
