The 2021 Geek Pride Story Event: Official Support Page

Loqui, I just got started on "A FAIRY AFFAIR AT A FAIRE", and I have to tell you I'm really digging the "grandma tells a story to the good little boys and girls" vibe you've got going. I'm intrigued to see where this going to go once clothes start coming off. :D

Aw! 😊 That's nice of you to say. It was kind of an experiment, and I really wasn't sure how well it would be received.

Got my first 1-bomb. Ouch. 4.91 -> 4.58.

@Loqui: I'm in your story now. Sharp writing, lovely flow.

I’m calling logistical shenanigans that someone read 50k words that posted at midnight and had time to dissect it enough and say, ā€œThis has nothing redeemable.ā€

I like your music tastes, by the way :D.

Thank you. Music is my other geek specialty, besides RPGs and giant robots.

Some songs were lucky coincidence, others required a bit of work. My biggest regret was not being able to use Thompson Twins' "Doctor! Doctor!" (can't you see I'm burnin', burnin') because it came out in 1984, half a year after that videotape got made. :) There was a whole set of jokes the douchebags could have made off that one line. Oh well. :)

Laurel just let me know here will be an anthology listing page with all the stories, like the last time, and she'll put a link on the front page in the News section once all the stories are live.

She just approved a batch of stories for the event so if you already had it submitted, it should be pre-approved now. Let me know if its not.

And if anyone submits their story over the next few hours, let me know and I'll message Laurel and ask her to add.

Me, I'm still working on mine....

It does not seem fair that Chloe hosted this event but either didn't finish on time or the story was rejected.

Anyway, thanks for hosting this event.

Chloe? Rejected?

That'll be the day...

Nah, she's probably just stuck on Word 36,877 out of the eventual 54k. She'll get it in.

42k and counting..... busy little beaver hammering away
At my story 😳

Wrong Category

I've posted enough stuff on Lit to have a feel for how a story is going to do, so I was surprised by the tepid response to my Geek Pride story.
.
Turns out it was posted in Erotic Couplings instead of Non-Erotic.
.
That'll do it.

I’ve posted some stories in erotic couplings that got some decent response, is that normally considered to be a dull and barren category?

By some. Everything I've posted there has done okay (but there are more responsive categories, that's for sure). It's all relative to your usual stomping ground, I think.

But if Bebop wanted his story in Non-Erotic, then I'd be thinking any category was the wrong category.

Chloe, can you please let Laurel know that the link to TarnishedPenny's "Professionals with Benefits" appears to be broken in the list? I've tried it five or six times and keep getting not found through the challenge list but get there successfully through TP's story list. The URL is

https://www.literotica.com/s/professionals-with-benefits

Thanks!

SC

Yes, messaged Laurel. I can see the problem, hopefully it'll be fixed tomorrow morning

In the event page, the URL shows as
https://www.literotica.com/s/"prof...-with-benefits
and gets a not found message

It should be
https://www.literotica.com/s/profess...-with-benefits

Yeah I had a couple of one bombs on the unconventional romance story as well, almost immediately out of the gate.

I'm in shock. Never posted in First Time before, now have my red H and a perfect 5 (and one nice comment from Nouh!)

The only way is down. Ooh!

My friend Anon just commented on a couple other stories to balance it out though. One apparently got 2 stars for a good plot but then not going into any detail about any of the sex acts.
It was my 2020 750 word project entry...

Next time write a 746-word entry.

And end it with "and then they banged."

"Black Lotus" is a great read. Flows incredibly well. Only nitpick I have is with use of the Power Nine - no tournament organizer would allow them to be played and for good reason. :)

But I see why its done the way its done and let it pass :)

What got me was "TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR THE ENTIRE POWER NINE?!?"

I totally blanked on the timeframe of the story. :D

Thanks, guys, glad you enjoyed. Yeah Pen, you can't even look at those cards for $200 today. But there was a time ...

All the Geek P stories have been great so far. I'll get through a few more today, already have you both queued up! :)

@PoisonPen: My lady love has devoured your "A Glimpse Of Emerald" and praised it to the high heavens. She especially loved the swerve into thriller territory in addition to the D&D geekery. Since she can't comment directly, she asked me to pass on her regards. Now I gotta have to read it as well :)

Please tell her I said thank you! That was a great comment to wake up to, especially since I was afraid the genre shift wouldn't come off well!

I am deeply amused, someone left a comment on a war of phantoms complaining that the sex scene went on for too long and that they skipped it.

I mean, they do know what site they’re on, right?

True, but it speaks to the strength of your world building and storytelling. I want to see how this war goes down and I don't need an extravagant sex scene in each encounter. Make them matter instead and emphasize the inter-Rider drama. And epic fight scenes!

My story 'Cousin Rikki Saves the Day' - a simple enough, 4 page story set firmly in the real world - is doing very well. I'm glad I entered the contest.

Mine's been mostly well received, too, with favorites, several new followers (yay!), and some nice comments. It also received the first significant criticism on it.

Anonymous felt was essentially too depressing and the lead character was too immature, so they didn't continue reading past that certain point. I understand and respect that, but that was the whole point at that particular point in the story. He was at the bottom and had to make a choice to give up or claw his way forward. If Anon had continued for another half of a page, they'd have discovered that the geeky lead character was trying to protect his much younger love interest, that someone else tells him to grow up and he has major reflections on her advice, and, just as important, he discovers he misunderstood a major heartache from high school (that ties in with the title and the summary), which sets up the turn and the ultimate climax of the story. It's a story of conflict and growth so, while I like to grow as an author from concrit like the geek in the story did, it's difficult to do that when the critic doesn't bother to look at the whole picture.

And now, breathe. Exhale slowly. Move forward. Hope eveyone has a great day!

Congratulations to all for getting it together. I doubt I’ll get to read them all, but there’s some really interesting stuff.
