"Forever Marilyn" is slated to go in front of the entrance of his museum, but she won't be facing the door. The 26-foot tall statue will be baring her backside to visitors as they exit the facility. When the city council was discussing the placement of the sculpture in November, Grachos called in to the meeting and expressed concerns about the unmentionables awaiting thousands of students who pass through annually.

"The thought of those kids leaving our museum and having the first thing they see is the undergarments and underwear of this enormous Marilyn sculpture would be highly offensive," Grachos told the council.

They were unmoved and gave the statue the go ahead to be temporarily placed in-front of the museum for three years.

"She's literally going to be mooning the museum," says Elizabeth Armstrong, a spokesperson for a Change.org petition objecting to Marilyn's objectification. It has more than 40,000 signatures. Armstrong is also a former director of the Palm Springs Art Museum.

"It's blatantly sexist," says Armstrong. "It forces people almost to upskirt."

What's offensive is your prudish assholishness, you ass. Kids see your ass wherever they see your face.

It's a horrible likeness, way too much license involved for portraying her face.

On the other hand, the 3d sculpturing is well done considering that I've never seen any "from behind" pics of the subway grating shot.

IMO, Marilyn wasn't all that much. No prettier than other women of the time, her voice was awful, and her acting skills not equivalent to her supposed fame and stardom. About the only thing she had going for her was that she wasn't afraid to show off, or use, her pink bits to her advantage.

The loudmouth is whining about objectification, but that actress objectified herself throughout her entire career.

Sexist? That's laughable.

She needs to worry about more important issues. At least statue is wearing undies.

she also killed herself and lived her life in the closet. she was not a happy woman.

IMO, Marilyn wasn't all that much.

Her, Jane Russell and several others from that era were what might now be called 'plus sized'.

Some discussions say she wore anywhere from a 12 to a 16 in 'back then' sizes, but others claim that would be closer to an 8 or 10 in today's sizes.

The giant "replica" of the ark in Kentucky is far more offensive.

Being a bigley fan of female buttocks and the panties that hug them, I'm thinking that they could have done a much better job.

To be a replica, it would have to be a close representation of the real object.

Exactly - that's why I used the quotation marks.

The battleship front-end is a great source of humor, though!
