I realized, today, that my current account has been active on Lit since 2001. I'm not good at math, but I'm pretty sure that's 20 years. I had another account before this one, but left for a while. So... Sheesh.
The thing I can't help but notice is that nearly everyone I used to know are gone. Some have died. I'm friends with a few outside of Lit, which is nice.
I've also noticed that the culture of the forum changed radically, a while back, for the worse. I know this was driven, in part, by fear of legal concerns, technical issues, and the like.
There were so many fake profiles, people pretending to be something other than what they were. There were some who seemed pathologically fixated on external validation. Still, there were some who seemed willing to dive deep, open up, and discuss the real challenges and victories of life. I miss that, and them.
I'm not typically prone to waxing nostalgic, but...
