Plagiarism at xbook.ch

Has anyone heard of this site? They have my recently published story there, claiming to be written by "@admin."

"ch" is Switzerland. Perhaps having it "taken down" is the "wrong" approach. European Social Democracies are pretty liberal. Maybe as "@admin" they owe you. I mean, it sounds like you work there. As a signatory to several UN treaties, Switzerland has laws against slavery.

Under Swiss law they probably have to pay you a certain wage, too. And since websites are 24/7/365 that will add up. I don't know what the minimum wage is over there. Or even what currency they use. (Walt said it's "Celsius" and the conversion rate is Dollars minus 32 the difference divided by nine then the quotent times five.) So $7.25x24x365.25=$63,553,50, not shabby. Even at 52 forty-hour weeks it's $15,280.00.

And while taxes in Switzerland will take a bite you can write those payments off your US taxes at 1:1 and I think -- keeping in mind that I run a fictional pizzeria, not a non-fictional tax law firm -- you should be entitled to lots of mandated benefits like health insurance and paternity leave. Were I you I'd see a lawyer and demand my money.

Enjoy skiing in the Alps.

My story: https://www.literotica.com/s/dreams-drawings-and-panties

Story on their site: https://xbook.ch/erotic-couplings/dreams-drawings-and-panties/

What's the proper channel for reporting a whole website that seems to be devoted to pirated stories from Literotica?
My guess is that the first step is to get the Whois information for the website. Unfortunately, my attempt to get it failed. Maybe the website is too new?

Fuck! I found all three of my stories there as well.

Faye and the Magic Lamp

Here on Lit: https://www.literotica.com/s/faye-and-the-magic-lamp

And on the other site: https://xbook.ch/nonhuman/faye-and-the-magic-lamp/

Faye and the Gloryhole

Here on Lit: https://www.literotica.com/s/faye-and-the-gloryhole

And on the other site: https://xbook.ch/fetish/faye-and-the-gloryhole/

and A Party of Two For Valentine's Day

Here on Lit: https://www.literotica.com/s/a-party-of-two-for-valentines-day

And on the other site: https://xbook.ch/erotic-couplings/a-party-of-two-for-valentines-day/

Both also credited to @Admin. Must be quite the busy writer

Talk about the gall of them!

Looks like another one that's wholesale scraping entire categories at a time. Anything that's part of the text ( including author's notes ) is left intact.

It's not entirely uncredited. The author's name is linked as a tag at the bottom of each horked story, which means you can quickly locate everything that's been stolen so far.

Looking at the "example" link at the top, I'd imagine the hope here is to eventually start offering the stolen stories in Ebook formats.

The TLD doesn't appear to be supported by the standard places. You have to search through one that supports .ch, and even then the information looks as if it's a mask. You could always try the contacts, though it would likely be a fruitless venture.

If you worry yourself over every one of these fly-by-night sites, you get caught in an endless game of whack-a-mole.

They only copied 9 out of the 10 Lit pages of my story, so any readers at that site will be disappointed when they can't find the ending there. :D

Maybe we could all leave comments on their stories that state that this story was stolen from Literotica with a link to real story.

It looks like this site is behind Cloudflare DNS, which makes it more difficult to track down the real host. Several months ago, it was hosted here, and possibly still is:

Domain With Stolen Content:
xbook.ch

Registrar (possible hosting company too)
netcup GmbH
Daimlerstraße 25
DE-76185 Karlsruhe
Phone +49 72175407550
mail@netcup.de

You might try contacting both of these email addresses with complaints and DMCA notices first:
abuse@netcup.de
mail@netcup.de

It looks like adult content is against the TOS of that company, as is copyright theft, so reporting both issues to them might help, in addition to any DMCA notices.

We have sent an email to the netcup.de company asking them to review the account for TOS violations. The more complaints that they get, the more likely they will be to act on the information.

This site doesn't seem to have advertising yet. If you do see any advertising, please let us know and we can try to track the sponsors down as well.

It is possible to get information on the domain registrant, but it requires an official report of copyright theft via this form:
https://www.nic.ch/whois/domaininfo/request/

Not sure about uploading an ID to that form to get the WHOIS info. Would probably best be done by a lawyer, which is possible if other methods don't work.

WOW! Nearly all of my stories 23+ are ripped off and on this site. Word for word. It is like some bot simply went through and picked off every new story in every category.

Also, I check on stories I have been editing helping other authors published under their names. And they have been ripped off too!

I have another Lit homepage with a writing partner. There is one story posted recently and they don't have that one, but it is only two weeks old. I'm going to watch for that one and see if we can establish a timeline for these IP thieves.

There's also a site: SmutMD that is a search engine that pulls in all of the stories from Literotica to be read with their reader. They don't seem to be stealing the stories, just giving you another portal to read them. Is this something we should worry about?

By their reader, do you mean SmutMD's reader of Lit's reader? Because when I tried it out it took me to Lit. And I could see Manu/Laurel having a domain with a search engine as it's sole purpose to bring readers to Lit.

Not seeing any of mine on there. not sure if that is a good or bad thing!

EDIT Scratch that - went in by my username and found them all!

Still not sure if it is a good or bad thing.

I tried searching by my name, no results came up. Instead, I get the message:

"Sorry, we have no prescription for you"

Xbook.ch evidently started systematically ripping stories from Literotica's "Anal" category on March 24th. After that they went through other categories systematically and posting everything onto their site. Since they leave your author name as a tag, it's easy to follow that link and find all the rest of your submissions from this site on theirs. However, since they don't (yet, at least) have a "First Time" category, they had not taken the first chapter of my Heaven Next Door series. They have the rest of it.

They also do not have a Sci-fi or Fantasy category, so they haven't yet purloined all those stories.

I don’t see the point of xbook. They don’t have ads. It’s almost like a fan site.

If you’re not going to monetise your theft, why bother?

Edit - Right, so another look has a link to Jegtheme. A French magazine complained that their site had been duplicated by this lot and used to demonstrate their Wordpress themes. I guess they did the same with Lit.

And they’re based in Bali, Indonesia.

If you want to keep posting stories here, then this will keep happening to you.
The only way to stop it is not to put your work anywhere for free.
Not that a published e-book can't be stolen as well, but you have more recourse when that happens, and sites that sell take stealing more seriously.

So, whether its fair or not, you can stop posting for free, or you can continue and just know that your work is all over the net. Its certainly not right that this happens, but when you've been stolen from before and just keep going and going....complaining starts to lose its sting.

Lit is a grocery store for pirates, keep stocking the shelves, they keep coming back.

I don't see a problem there. They're linking first and foremost to the Literotica version with credits. I'd have to sign up to check just how the reader works, but I don't think they're hosting the stories on their own site, just giving readers an option to customise how they view a story from here. If that's all they're doing, doesn't seem much different to viewing Lit through a search engine + web browser with customised settings.

Signed up at SmutMD, Their reader just pulls the store from Lit, as is, leaving the authors name and any and all copyright and note sections.

I see no problem with this sight, except they don't seem to have a night mode.

It sounds like these sites are letting Literotica pay for hosting the stories, while depriving Literotica of potential advertisement revenue or purchases from their store links.

How do you figure that Literotica is paying any other site to host its stories?
