When I log into my dashboard I get notifications that there are comments on my stories, but when I click on the link to the story there is nothing new there.

Sometimes I can change the sort order (i.e., from 'oldest first' to 'newest first,' and it will show up. Lately, though, I've gotten no joy. Sometimes it takes up to an hour, but now it's several hours later and still no joy.

Is this a known issue, or am I just special? :)

Sometimes comments get held up for a few hours, apparently as part of the site's anti-spam process. Instead of clicking on the story link, click on the 'moderate comments' link in your Works view (over to the right of the story name) and you should be able to see new comments.

Thanks. That definitely worked. I didn't realize that there was a gap between the notification and the publication to that extent.

Cheers.

Yeah, this ^^^^. And sometimes they get held up because Laurel is busy doing something else and the process get hung up.

Comments on my stories have been held up for two days, which is longer than I can recall before. I can see them by clicking on the Moderate Comments icon, but not at the end of the story.

I've noticed that when I read stories listed that say there are comments, when I open the story, I can see no comments.

I can see the comments on my stories through the control panel, but nowhere else.

Edited to add: This only seems to be an issue with new stories in the past few days so Laurel and Manu must be busy with something.

I know they've had their hands full with missing views/ratings, so it doesn't surprise me that the comments have been held up.

I noticed that some of the comments are actually submitted twice (when I look from my dash), which leads me to think that the commenters are looking for their posts on the stories as well, and trying to re-submit.

I found this our this morning...

Click on the link at the top of the comments section labeled "Newest First" they will all appear. There seems to be a bug in the "Oldest First" code for new stories.

I have reported the bug in Tech Support already.

Go to the bottom of the story.

Click comments.

Then click new and you can see the comments.

You can also go to your dashboard works and click on the comment icon to see comments.

Comments not posting

I’ve had a story up for 3 days. By now I usually have 50 comments. Now I have 15. If you go to the end of my story no comments show. I think it’s a bug. How do I report it.

I already posted in the Lit Tech Support thread. I found another little quirk today.

If you have several comments and they show up with the Oldest First link, click the Newest First Link and you sometime find you have one more than with the Oldest First link. Something is definitely screwed up.

Is it a private comment?

One of my stories has a single comment listed in the dashboard, but it is not visible at the end of the story. I can only see the comment if I click on the comment icon from the dashboard. I've assumed that this is because the commenter clicked the "Send Private Feedback" button rather than creating a public comment.

Have you tried clicking on the comment icon from your dashboard?

It was reported several days ago on the tech forum. As others have posted it can be hours to days before they show up on the story. I would hope they're working on it.

"Private Feedback" comes via email.

I haven't had a problem with comments. Could it be browser-specific? I use Firefox on Ubuntu.

I can confirm this from pure reader perspective.

Several days ago I commented on a story, published not long, but some while ago already, but I was the first to comment apparently (then, it could be kind of niche story). Day or two ago I checked back, not that I expected anything. Surprisingly, there was no comment. I still had my fact of commenting in my activity stream, that's the way I went to it. Slightly baffled I decided the author deleted my comment, while not obvious, I could, in theory construct a reason for that. Then, I saw this tread, and decided to check it out. And indeed, the comment only showed up if I changed the sort order (what would be an absurd idea when there's zero comments, seemingly, without prior knowledge of the trick). Indeed, my comment showed up then. Still as the only one, but it's there.

Intrigued I looked around, but unfortunately it's the only comment I had made recently. On another story, with collection of comments between seven months and 19 days in age there was no difference in comment counts between sort ordering.

It could be problem with new stories, or it could be problem with new comments, regardless of story age.

New comments are now visible for my latest story. Originally, the first comment was not visible at the end of the story, and was only visible if I clicked on the comment icon from the dashboard. I checked again this morning and that comment (and another one) are now visible at the end of the story.
