It's not that he COULDN'T answer. It's that he DIDN'T answer. Everyone now KNOWS his answer.
 
There is nothing new about Deplorables preferring their simple-minded fear-based concepts over a more complex reality. In fact, their simple-minded view about gender is entirely consistent with their denial of reality in other areas:

  • Human-caused global warming will continue to occur, whether Deplorables believe it is occurring or not.
  • The COVID pandemic will continue to claim more than half a million lives in the U.S., whether or not Deplorables think that it is "real", or whether they think a nation is powerless to do anything about it.
  • Nature will continue to reflect a wide range of sexual and gender orientations, whether or not the Deplorables continue to insist that everyone must be either a heterosexual male or female.
As a result of their denial of reality, Deplorables are rapidly becoming ignored as they are driven from positions of power.
 
Maybe the Lit progs can answer the question:

Should 5 year olds be able to decide to transition?

It’s a simple question, maybe you can answer it without a dissertation on deplorables.

Is a child (let’s use 12 years old) able to make an informed decision about surgically and with drugs transitioning to the opposite sex?

Since even an adult can't follow through on that decision without extensive counselling, the answer is no.

Now, if what you're really asking is, could a 5-year-old know s/he is trans or non-binary, evidence suggests the answer is yes.
