coronavirus deaths.

Trump did not bother to try to console our nation about the loss and sorrow-
He said it himself, that he wanted to downplay it.
One out of 165 Americans, dead of Covid-19. Days, when four thousand died of it.
A creature of evil, he dragged down efforts to end the spread, internationally.

Latest stats from the UK show that the chances of severe infection ( hospitalisation) , even if you're unlucky to still contract it after vaccination, are much lower - with Pfizer or Atra-Zen. Fingers crossed, keep wearing the mask
 
Biden is playing catch up due to inactions by trump admin. The only way it will get worse is if biden just lets the virus run its course like trump did.
 
Yesterday the UK government posted the road map out of lockdown BUT Covid will be with us for years.

We might, with vaccines, and particularly adapted vaccines to address variants, get the death toll below that of annual flu, but we will NOT eradicate it.

NO. I said that the road map is published. Lockdown in the UK will END, probably in June - forever.

But we will have to accept that people will still die from Covid, no matter what we do.

The next medical step is to find a cure, there are a couple of drugs in the pipeline that are promising.

RH-107 has just completed Phase I/II testing and is moving into Phase II/III. A pre-hospitalization therapeutic that prevents the further replication of the virus once it has infected a person.

Opaganib is already in Phase II/III. It prevents viral replication and reduces inflammation in the patient and is aimed at hospitalized patients.

Both are coming out of Red Hill Pharma (an Isreali Firm).

Both are a once a day pill form that in the Phase I/II trials (double-blind, random, v. placebo). Both drugs are showing statistically significant impact in stopping the infection.

The University of Nottingham (shout out to the UK) has thapsigargin, a broad spectrum antiviral, currently in Stage I, that is showing "highly effective" results (and just incidentally cures the common cold as well), and should be entering Phase II shortly.

A lot of movement in this space, now that the focus is off the vaccines and pivoting to the therapeutics - University of Quebec has one entering Phase II/III, St. Jude has one entering Phase II/III as well.

(One of the good things, medically speaking, was the decision by the various health agencies to shorten the testing window and allow them to overlap/combine trials.)
