Texas cant keep the power on.

Rolling blackouts in effect. Lol

Because of the weather which is pretty shitty across a lot of Texas now.
Big difference from California, where idiot politicians make policy decisions forcing residents to swelter because they can't keep the lights on due to a planned lack of fossil fuel energy.

Texas' emergency power plan has proven to be catastrophic.

We're now 30% BEYOND "worse case scenario" with the temperature in the teens throughout most of Texas.

The power shortage is now the equivalent of three full time generating stations offline. 2 million without power and they STILL have to do "rolling blackouts" to preserve the rest of the grid. I had a rolling blackout for 45 minutes at 2 a.m. last night.

Peak usage will be 7 pm tonight after the sun goes down. This is gonna suck.

Arnold hated fossil fuels?

Arnold hasn't been governor in 10 years now.

(R)'s haven't controlled Sacramento in 25 years.

Try again sad partisan hack. :) (D)'s own every bit of what CA is right now.

That is the DNC's shining example...LOL

Have you ever even attempted to not be stupid and willfully ignorant? The blackouts happened under Arnold as well, Poor lil Dumb-Dumb. If anything, my post was to balance out the idiot's partisanship.

Also, The Terminator, a REPUBLICAN. was governor here just 10 years ago. Oh, wait... He's one of those Hollywood Republicans, or some other dumb name you make up.

Yes...it's a great place to live? I've never meet anyone who disliked it there... well, except one potted plant. Chuckles.

This winter and last year in the summer with all the hurricanes...it is the hallmark of global warming.

Even though it is cold all across the country the national average temperatures are still way above normal. Math sucks sometimes but you can't really go by how it feels or how tough it is to deal with.

Texas is in a bad way....can only hope that the cold lifts soon. I hear it snowed in the beach in Galveston....I don't think it has ever done that.

Teens. Fucking christ. We just had a week of -20s...real temps...we don't do wind chills in Wyoming. And we got somewhere near 18 inches of snow 3-4 inches at a time. Tell me...why does it take more power to heat a house than to cool it when it is 110? Piss poor planning.

Greater temperature differential....I'm sure you know it.

It actually is really.like the pandemic...when you never see demand for certain things it just isn't built into planning at the govt and even the private sphere.

Even in the mid Atlantic and east.coast we have been hammered with snow and ice.

I feel for you and everyone....it isn't good especially after the last year... really, really sucks!

Nah...it isn't about the physics of temp differentials. I have lived in places that lost power during the summer many times due to too much demand...but they never lose power in the winter and it can get ungodly cold. There is something else here. Maybe it is because so much of the country is under this cold and they can't steal it from elsewhere

Electric furnaces and baseboard heaters are pigs on electricity. Probably a lot of heat pumps too. I would assume texas doesnt use a lot of oil or gas for heating.

Ok...I read up on it. The official statement is their infrastructure can't handle the demand. In other words...they pocketed profits instead of upgrading infrastructure. Some of the localities are using 1950s technology. This makes total sense now.

I think you are correct about electric heaters there. I have a boiler...gas...water heated baseboards and it is efficient as hell...and warm. $40 a month in the winter for gas...another $40 for electricity.

Yeh...40 states got hit hard. Hopefully in a few days things will "chill".

Three thinly insulated plants had triggered shutdowns when temperatures got below 20 degrees for over 2 hours...that was teh "worst case scenario". Cascade of failures followed.

I have Natural gas Heat, Water Heater and Stove/oven.

I also have my generator ready to go.

This is Texas... ANYTHING can happen at the worse times and often does, especially for the unprepared.

I try not to be one of them.

And what has the (D) controlled state legislature done to fix that in the last 25 years???

Or the last 10 years of (D) governance within those 25 years.

10 years of TOTAL control and y'all still got problems from the 90's.

Charging you mother fuckers a PREMIUM and giving you shit in return. :)

Amazing...gorgeous place.

Unfortunately it's run by idiots and other than HI or NYC my money is worth 3-5x in any other state.

Stay working middle class in California and hope I can outrun the hamster wheel?? Grinding and hustling to put money in the state of California's pockets for another 20 years hoping to god they don't just come in and shut me down for shits n' giggles???

Or retire upper middle class to wealthy to any of 47 other states....and do whatever the fuck I want for the rest of my life, 90% less regulated by the state and without ever worrying about money again. hmmmm

California just ain't that nice. Not worth an additional 10-15 years taking risks and parrying to god nothing goes wrong when the good life is at hand damn near anywhere else on the planet.

I live in Southeastern Texas. After losing power during a hurricane I bought a natural gas generator. I now have power year around if the power goes down. My generator is large enough to supply electricity to all my appliances plus heating or AC. I love it.

Loss of water and cell service too. Looks like Texas needs to upgrade their entire infrastructure. Must be due to corrupt people running the joint.

You were just proven to be wrong. It's not smart people's fault that you couldn't make it here. How's the frostbite coming along?

You don't even know who was governor during the blackouts, Poor lil Dumb-Dumb.

Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that Republicans in Texas were calling for Texas to secede from the Union?

Now the Republican governor of Texas is begging for federal FEMA aid from the very union that they wanted to secede from.

Make up your mind, guys! Do you want to strike out and make it on your own? Or do you want the federal taxes paid by states like New York and California to bail your asses out and take care of you whenever you blow up a chemical plant or your power grid becomes overloaded?

_ _ _ _ _

TEXAS REPUBLICANS: We're tired of being part of the U.S.A.! All you ever do is socialism!
You're killing us with socialist ideas like Obamacare and safety regulations and Social Security and the Voting Rights Act and the Paris Climate Accords! Well, we're gonna start our own country! We're not going to have regulations or social security taxes or Obamacare! We're gonna be awesome!

THE REST OF AMERICA Fine! Get going!

TEXAS REPUBLICANS: Oh, we're going! You're gonna be all "Where's Texas? We miss Texas".

THE REST OF AMERICA: We won't know that until you leave.

TEXAS REPUBLICANS: Oh, we're leaving!

THE REST OF AMERICA: There's the door.

(A blizzard hits, and the Texas's outdated, overworked power grid can't take the strain of providing heat for millions of Texans all at once, suddenly leaving millions of Texans without power)

TEXAS REPUBLICANS: We're cold and our power doesn't work. Could we get some of you socialists to help us?
