What are your predictions for the Senate impeachment trial of former President Trump?

I predict the trial will move forward regardless of the GOP objections that it is unconstitutional now that Trump has left office. Lol. It's funny that Trump's defense is that he actually won, yet the GOP is trying to say he can't be tried because he is out.

I predict that after hearing and viewing of evidence that all democrats will vote to convict and about fifteen or so GOP Senators will find the courage to vote based on facts and evidence, while the rest will put party and Trump above the rule of law.

Trump will be convicted on a narrow vote and he will be barred from ever again holding public office.

I am under no illusion that republicans will suddenly grow a spine and develop ethics.

It will end with an acquittal, just like last time. Bet the farm.

The Republicans have no morals. This is not about winning a battle. This is about winning the war. History will not be kind to the Fascist traitors.

Entirely possible given the theatrical nature of it all.

The facts however don't support the (D)ipshits. This is just TDS on the detox kick gone wild.

And I don't think that many (R)'s are chugging CNN/RAW/Wonkette/NYT Kool Aid and would like to keep their seat.

I think he'll narrowly escape and most likely not run in 2024. He's old.

HOWEVER....I think either way he intends to stay politically active and supportive of the anti-woke/socialism crowd.

I believe that some Republicans are thinking that now is the time to separate Trump from the Republican party or they will lose it for good. Will there be enough Republicans between those who, after seeing the evidence presented, will find the donald guilty (for there will be a few at a minimum) and those who are just looking out for their own ass to convict? Stay tuned because I haven't the slightest clue. I will predict this: after this is all said and done we will have a third party made up of those who are tired of or afraid to continue the deification of the donald. The number who flee the party will be based on a guilty/not guilty outcome.

Of course not.

Those mofos are anti-American Nazi-loving cowards.

Trump's tiny itsy bitsy shrunken white dick must be protected at all costs! Maybe they should make a shrine to it and give offerings.

I am under no illusion that republicans will suddenly grow a spine and develop ethics.

There are not enough Republican votes to impeach him ,I think only 5/6 will cross the line .
If he gets impeached not only will I be stunned and shocked ,I will be very happy .

I predict that most Republicans will vote against conviction and that conviction will fail. I also predict that history will highlight this period as when a twice-impeached president tried to instigate a coup in the United States and failed. And I predict that the descendants of those Republican senators who voted against conviction will ever hereafter do what they can to hide that that senator was on the family tree. (I think this because I have a McCarthyite senator on my family tree and we don't acknowledge he's there if we can avoid it.)

I think that most Republicans will back Trump but then all who voted against his impeachment should be impeached themselves for 'high crimes against the state'.

The impeachment won't happen but will anyone trust a Republican again?

hey...

because of what he was able to generate and inspire in the crowds, he won't be found guilty of anything but the most weak and feeble charges, so that he will once again run for the office of the President.
He will get us into a pissing match with a country that on the face of the situation we should be able to handily beat but the outcome will be decidedly in our opponents favor.
Placing the United States in a position it has not seen since it pledged all its citizens (at that time) and all citizens yet to come, as collateral against the debt it assumed to supposedly win the war..., back before we officially entered WW2.

What I want to know is whats to stop the impeachment of OBAMA, Biden, Clinton ect. ?

Might makes right only works if you are always in power.

The entire proceeding has no constitutional foundation and is an utter waste of time. It is just another in the litany of examples of Democrat hatred for the electorate. This is another manifestation of blind Democrat hatred for Donald Trump and they are furious that they are incapable of pinning anything meaningful on him despite their subterfuge.

Absolutely nothing...other than you have to do something to be impeached for. I suppose, like Clinton, who was impeached for a consensual sex act that he lied about (which if you're using that as a reason 2/3rds of congress should be impeached for the same) you could dig real deep and find a crumb somewhere, then blow it all out of proportion to make a case but I doubt it. Compare the aforementioned sex act to inciting a riot to take over the capital building, one in which police were killed, crippled and maimed. One in which the perpetrators were hunting members of congress to kill them.

Yea those are pretty much the same huh?

1) Most (many are very conservative) constitutional scholars have said it is legal under the constitution. In fact, we have in the past done so by impeaching a cabinet member AFTER they resigned. By expert opinion and historic precedence, the "it isn't constitutional" gambit carries no credence what so ever.

2) Apparently in your opinion we should allow a sitting president in their lasts days in office to do whatever they wish? And if it had been a Democratic president that did what Trump did, would you say the same? If not, why not? Choose wisely.

They can all be impeached on the charge of abuse of power. Then Trump can be impeached a third time.

Well, constitutional scholars are not Supreme Court Justices, so their perspective has no practical impact. I'm sure a conviction would end up before the Justices, don't you think? The Constitution is clear that the Chief Justice must Preside. That aspect is problematic. And yes, I would feel the same if this was a former Democrat President. I have no dog in this fight.

Nothing they've done has risen anywhere close to the level of the corruption, criminality, and treason of Donald Trump.

This was a trick question, right? (And so lame, I might add.)

Well, constitutional scholars are not Supreme Court Justices,

Being a constitutional scholar is pretty much a basic requirement for qualifying to be a Supreme Court Justice. Where were you when they handed out brains?

^^^ He thought they said trains and his jumped the track.

I predict that Trump will not be convicted, because Republicans in the Senate put party before country.

Aren't there something like 4 or 5 reasonably sure votes for good? So, they'd only need to swing another 4 or 5?
