What are your predictions for the Senate impeachment trial of former President Trump?



I predict the trial will move forward regardless of the GOP objections that it is unconstitutional now that Trump has left office. Lol. It's funny that Trump's defense is that he actually won, yet the GOP is trying to say he can't be tried because he is out.

I predict that after hearing and viewing of evidence that all democrats will vote to convict and about fifteen or so GOP Senators will find the courage to vote based on facts and evidence, while the rest will put party and Trump above the rule of law.

Trump will be convicted on a narrow vote and he will be barred from ever again holding public office.

I believe that some Republicans are thinking that now is the time to separate Trump from the Republican party or they will lose it for good. Will there be enough Republicans between those who, after seeing the evidence presented, will find the donald guilty (for there will be a few at a minimum) and those who are just looking out for their own ass to convict? Stay tuned because I haven't the slightest clue. I will predict this: after this is all said and done we will have a third party made up of those who are tired of or afraid to continue the deification of the donald. The number who flee the party will be based on a guilty/not guilty outcome.

There are not enough Republican votes to impeach him ,I think only 5/6 will cross the line .

I predict that most Republicans will vote against conviction and that conviction will fail. I also predict that history will highlight this period as when a twice-impeached president tried to instigate a coup in the United States and failed. And I predict that the descendants of those Republican senators who voted against conviction will ever hereafter do what they can to hide that that senator was on the family tree. (I think this because I have a McCarthyite senator on my family tree and we don't acknowledge he's there if we can avoid it.)

because of what he was able to generate and inspire in the crowds, he won't be found guilty of anything but the most weak and feeble charges, so that he will once again run for the office of the President.

I suppose, like Clinton, who was impeached for a consensual sex act that he lied about (which if you're using that as a reason 2/3rds of congress should be impeached for the same) you could dig real deep and find a crumb somewhere, then blow it all out of proportion to make a case but I doubt it. Compare the aforementioned sex act to inciting a riot to take over the capital building, one in which police were killed, crippled and maimed. One in which the perpetrators were hunting members of congress to kill them.

By expert opinion and historic precedence, the "it isn't constitutional" gambit carries no credence what so ever.

2) Apparently in your opinion we should allow a sitting president in their lasts days in office to do whatever they wish? And if it had been a Democratic president that did what Trump did, would you say the same? If not, why not? Choose wisely.

Well, constitutional scholars are not Supreme Court Justices, so their perspective has no practical impact. I'm sure a conviction would end up before the Justices, don't you think? The Constitution is clear that the Chief Justice must Preside. That aspect is problematic. And yes, I would feel the same if this was a former Democrat President. I have no dog in this fight.
