To IT, or Not to IT?

OK, I hate that question and how so many things are phrased that way, but it sort of fits here.

I've been dabbling in IT mainly due to the T portion. I don't really do I in the way so many do. I don't do direct parent/offspring interaction, copulation, oral, etc. I take the angle of them sharing encounters with others, being naked, talking openly, and so on.

I'm aware that there are legal definition of I that would include most of the story areas I go into. Those would include the above mentioned as well as direct interaction between inlaws and other relations. Sibling stuff is definitely I, no question.

But what about in laws? Whether or not it is legally anywhere is not my question. Here, on Lit, for the purposes of which category to choose is inlaw stuff I?

Brother in law, son in law, sister in law, mother in law, father in law or any combination.

Also, while parents and offspring being naked in front of each other, engaging in explicit discussions or interactions with third party others, even though not directly between them can certainly be I, can it be in other categories such as E/V, EC or Group?

I’ve done the same thing, not I but T. A grumble here or there, but knock on wood, no angry mob with torches and pitchforks.

I also used an author’s note to give advanced warning. Not to open that can of worms...

As TX Tall Tales said in his article, which I regard as the best word on the subject, IT is a "trump" category, which means that if IT is the main or significant erotic element in the story, it's going to go into IT even if it has other elements, like a fetish or exhibitionism.

In law stories are definitely IT stories. Ask yourself whether the fact of the in law relationship is an important erotic element in the story and part of the story's interest. It probably is. That makes it an IT story.

It doesn't really matter what the law says. What matters is the way readers will look at the story.

I've never written a story centered around Information Technology. It seems like a natural topic for the Geek Pride event.

Erotica goes far beyond the legal in determining what's incest. In-laws? Yes.

I just snorted my coffee. That one caught me by surprise. That was mean, NotWise. LOL. :D

Actually the way the site owner looks at the stories.

If there are 1,000,000 jurisdictions on earth then there are 2,000,000 conflicting laws defining "I". JMO "I" should be replaced with a different more precise word. Everyone I grew up with (1970s-80s) saw parents and siblings naked and they played "doctor" with siblings, cousins, and neighbors. Many of us our first times were with someone in those three categories. Most of us are perfectly normal today -- okay everybody but me is perfectly normal today, but this sort of thing had nothing to do with my issues, I'm just plain nuts.

JMO all "status" crimes belong on society's rubbish bin along with laws prohibiting intermarriage (racial and religious), integration, access to birth control means and information, and the places that certain classes, faiths, and races people can live and work. Either we (especially women) are adults and we have agency or we don't and we are all children and all sexual conduct should be banned.

Personally I don't see why I can't fuck my adult brother if we both agree ... Actually I can here where I live, but some places that's punished with 20 years in jail -- and in some of those places honor killings are perfectly legal --. In Brazil half siblings can legally marry, in many places siblings can marry as a matter of practice because of the way births are recorded, in other places you can get stoned to death for masturbating, so quoting a law isn't that much help.

This site has rules that -- only apply about 50% here and -- don't apply at all elsewhere. In theory at Lit all nudity is sex and incest is a trump category. Well, it sorta is, unless it's two brothers doing one girl or the backstory on why the MC's wife is a nympho. If the rules here were rigidly and uniformly enforced half of the catalog would have to be deleted.

I don't care for or write non-con, but I love complete submission and CNC, that's just me. I think siblings are cool, I know some in RL and (although it is a small sample size) they have better relationships than most people. I find parent-child to be problematic as it's between people with different power bases ... But so are many RL relationships, is daddy-daughter that different than boss-cleaning lady: "I mean if anyone had told me that this sort of thing was frowned upon ..."

Rape, abuse and the like is not sexy to me. Intense consensual sex (including CNC) is. I'm not even sure where Lit draws the line on Taboo. The plot line of a story I wrote was that two kids raised by single parents were living in the halls at the Uni. They started dating, summer break came and one visited the other's home then the parents met and started dating and they ended up starting a business and living together. In my mind they were two couples, but it was put in I/T where readers disagreed with the placement.

Are first-cousin's taboo? In most places first-cousins can marry. Are second cousins? What about a boss and his secretary or Mary Matlin and James Carville? A bunch of nudists who are related?

^^^ That's not really the point of this thread. This is about category selection for story submissions.

Maybe I could have been clearer. Unless a work is really short and or absurdly simple as authors we can write it slanted towards a particular category or away from it. But the decision where it ultimately goes (or if it goes) is not ours, it is the site owners'. And I'm not ragging on Laurel, she has to exist in a tough environment.

A story of mine posted in LW twenty years ago would be posted in Group today etc.. Some stories that technically comply with all rules here come down while some that violate six rules nobody cares about stay up. If I/T is the target of anti-sex activists rest assured that if noticed stories where two brothers see each other naked will end up in I/T or GM.

EDITED TO ADD:
"Also, while parents and offspring being naked in front of each other, engaging in explicit discussions or interactions with third party others, even though not directly between them can certainly be I, can it be in other categories such as E/V, EC or Group?"
Many years ago I wrote a story where the female MC's family was very liberal and the male MC's family very conservative (think Dharma & Greg, although it wasn't a FanFiction) during many chapters they all interacted while naked and the male MC had sexual interactions with the female MC's adult sister and mother with her blessing. To my mind this was not incest and it was published in LW. Years later I penned a sequel. Submitted as Group, it was published in I/T.
