This is why I'll never be a Republican inspite of having a few issues that I most definitely align myself with...the three year olds have spoken.

A sampling of these childlike thoughts they have...

* Whereas history tells us that after George Washington appointed Major General Benedict Arnold to command West Point, Arnold conspired to surrender the fort to the British."

* "Whereas the ten Republican House members, by voting to impeach President Trump, repeated history by conspiring to surrender our nation to Leftist forces seeking to establish a dictatorship void of all cherished freedoms and liberties."

* "Whereas there is growing evidence that the violence at the Capitol was a 'false flag' operation designed to discredit President Trump, his supporters, and all conservative Republicans; this provided the sham motivation to impeach President Trump in order to advance the Democrat goal of seizing total power, in a frightening parallel to the February 1933 burning of the German Reichstag."

I'm not an expert on Oregon or its politics, but my sense is that about 1/4 of the state is basically Idaho politically. They've taken over the state GOP and gone increasingly insane because they can't really compete statewide anymore.

I'm not seeing anywhere in the country where Republicans are responding to the loss of the White House by saying, "Hmmm, how can we broaden our appeal and our message?" It's all QAnon Lite and more vote suppression. Arizona is even worse than Oregon.

If it weren't for Multnomah County and the tri-county area, Oregon would be as red as can be.

Oregon was originally "marketed" to white people trying to escape a desegregated south. That history hasn't been dealt with.

They weren't wrong about that part.

Opinions are fine...and yours is wrong as is their's.

How about some evidence to convince us or to support your opinion?

Do you have some?

Or is it just shit stained tissue conjecture.

Yes, but Multnomah County and the tri-county area are there, and the right-wing rural areas are nearly always outvoted. So the Oregon Republicans are pretty much free to say crazy things like this with nothing to lose.

bodysong comment- Please tell me that Oregon GOP members do not
actually believe this nonsense, and only parrot the stories as a defense
against getting battered by the ugly, brutal truth-

A resolution released last week by the Oregon GOP reflects a party steering hard
to the extreme fringe of its constituency at the cost of its credibility.*

The resolution condemned the 10 Republican representatives – all from other states –
for voting to impeach former President Donald Trump for inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection
at the U.S. Capitol, as The Oregonian/OregonLive’s Ted Sickinger reported.
Full of ominous language of Democratic dictatorships and Republican betrayals,
the resolution argues that the riots may have been a “false flag” operation by leftists
to discredit Trump supporters, despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary.
It also paints an apocalyptic picture of life under the Biden/Harris administration,
suggesting that, among other things, the government may seek to place conservatives
on a “secret no-fly list.”

*The news release described the Republican votes in favor of impeachment as a
“profound betrayal,” and the impeachment vote itself as a “sham process”
without an investigation and “in contradiction to the known and emerging facts.”

The set of resolutions passed by the executive committee also said the transcript
of Trump’s speech contradicted Democrats’ claims that he incited the insurrection.

“This provided the sham motivation to impeach President Trump in order to advance the
Democrat goal of seizing total power, in a frightening parallel to the February 1933
burning of the German Reichstag,’ the resolutions said.

Ironic considering how the their Republicans were the ones that basically tried to sieze power and overturn a popular vote.

Its' just like, their idiocy knows no bounds. I mean, these aren't just ignorant people, these are what I would consider to be horrible people, and it's downright scary that elected officials are saying stuff like this. The Republican party I knew and supported as a young man were never like this; these people would not even have been elected assistent secretary of their local Backstreet Boys fan club, let alone a state or national public office.

And I do live in Idaho and yes, it is pretty bad here. While Idaho was always known as a haven for white supremacists and racists, it's actually gotten a lot worse in the years since Aryan Nations went bankrupt, particularly in the last 4 years (which may not be entirely coincidental either). We have people in our legislature who are actually in favor of Jim Crow style segregation.

The late, great Frank Church was a staunch advocate for what became the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as early as 1956, and he was warning anyone who would listen about the rise of the crazy right within the Republican Party a good decade before it really took hold nationwide. It's out of respect for his memory that I refuse to give up on Idaho...but I sure hope the pendulum starts to swing back sooner rather than later!

I'm tired of these 'GOP is dead' threads. It ain't happenin'. If anything they're getting stronger. And crazier. They're getting into lockstep. Or is that goose step?

I'm 73 years old. Until September 2019 I had been either associated with or a registered Republican. Unfortunately I watched the Republican party jack step behind a dictator wantabe. The Republican party I grew up with is in fact dead and Trump is burying it. All that is left is Trumps GOP (Grab Our Pussy) cult party.

"Sundown towns" are still a thing, socially. Oregon has more than a handful of them, too.

Thank you....while I'm mostly not a republican supporter, I also have my issues with Dems...leaving me in the independent camp most of my years and longing for one Presidential candidate I can get behind fully...

I appreciate your sentiment. REPUBLICANS.used to stand for certain things....that is clearly dead!

Scaramucci said it best while being interviewed...no leader has emerged to bring the party back to one of a platform of policy.

It has fractured in two...time will tell.
