Former President Donald Trump reportedly floated creating his own political party to battle with the GOP in his last week at the White House.
New York Magazine columnist Eric Levitz believes that Trump is too lazy to do all the work that would be required in forming a new political party, but he does believe that the former president and his "most crackbrained supporters" could nonetheless make life miserable for Republicans.
"He could devastate the party of his betrayers without breaking a sweat: If Trump told his voters to sit out the 2024 election to punish Republicans for treating him unfairly, all available evidence suggests he could demobilize enough of the GOP base to render victory impossible," he writes. "And Trump has often displayed greater wrath toward his turncoats than he has toward his known enemies."

What could possibly be on his mind?'Remember in the Lion King when Scar cheated to win the title as king? And the pride land was overrun by the hyenas? And all of the lions lost everything they had built and maintained?' the former president's eldest son wrote on his Instagram Story on Tuesday night.
'Just asking. No reason,' he added.
U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is under fire after claiming Senators should be taking orders from the leader of their political party. The Iowa Republican has been in Congress since 1975, and until Thursday was third in the line of succession to the presidency, in his role as President pro tempore of the Senate.
"Pres Biden is preaching unity & healing while Dem leadership is focused on impeachment of a former president. Does Pres Biden not hv control of congressional Democrats as leader of party??? This move will surely slow up Biden cabinet confirmations/agenda + increase division," Grassley tweeted.
A Trump-supporting Arizona t-shirt shop owner is being investigated by police for pulling a gun on a customer who refused to take off his face mask while in his store.
Local news station WRTV reports that the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office are investigating an incident that occurred late last year when face mask-wearing Arizona resident Everett DePue entered a store owned by a Trump supporter named Scott Cerkoney.
Cerkoney says he has "a strict no-mask policy" in his store, and he approached DePue and instructed him to either leave or remove his mask.
The two men eventually got into a shoving match, while prompted Cerkoney to draw his gun on the would-be customer.
"Democrats care. We don't. That is our advantage."
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is facing withering criticism for telling an interviewer that every American shoulders part of the blame for the Jan. 6th storming of the U.S. Capitol by right-wing extremists urged on Donald Trump.
According to a report from HuffPost, McCarthy made his comments in an interview to be shown this Sunday on "Full Court Press With Greta Van Susteren," saying Trump bears some responsibility, before adding, "I also think everybody across this country has some responsibility."
That set off a flurry of criticism from critics accusing the Republican leader of trying to point the finger elsewhere for the MAGA-inspired coup attempt that led to five deaths.
There are locations in Mar-A-Lago from which Trump can speak to the press, and there’s plenty of press ready to give him international coverage. He’s better positioned to get out a message than any user of Twitter.
Trump just might testify at his impeachment trial because he craves the spotlight: CNN

There are locations in Mar-A-Lago from which Trump can speak to the press, and there’s plenty of press ready to give him international coverage. He’s better positioned to get out a message than any user of Twitter.
The idea that Trump is somehow being muzzled or denied a spotlight is absolutely wrong.
"The only way to bring healing is to actually have real accountability. So we will move forward with the trial," Schumer explained.
It''s a sentiment that Sen. Elizabeth Warren also expressed on CNN Sunday morning with Abby Phillip. She too, said that unity begins with accountability.
On Sunday, Trump was said to be golfing like he typically did during his tenure in the White House. But this time there were no sneaky photos from the press pool.
Flying over Mar-a-Lago Sunday was a massive banner calling the former White House resident the "worst president ever" and a "pathetic loser."
Meanwhile, more members of Mar-a-Lago's club are quitting.
According to a report from Axios, more than a few rank and file Republican lawmakers are furious with the GOP's leadership because they feel they did not protect ex-President Donald Trump to the bitter end.
As noted by Axios founders Mike Allen and Jim Vandehei, the past two months for the GOP's leadership has been "nightmarish" after losing both the White House and majority control of the Senate.
At issue are worries about where the party goes without Trump and whether the GOP as a whole will be punished by the ex-president still angry over his election loss to now-President Joe Biden.
"Much of the party's base — including conservative talk radio, TV and social media — are spoiling to fight for Trump in exile," they wrote, adding, "On top of that, Trump himself is threatening to literally split the party in two with the creation of a new MAGA Party or Patriot Party."
