Laughing at all the far right people getting deplatformed has been amusing but I can't help but think the reasons stated for doing so "violence" "extremism" etc are going to be problematic. It leaves the question of whether they should be deplatforming leaders in other countries wide open and that question may cause those other countries to start potentially making the own insular platforms fragmenting the online world and global communications a little more. Even angela merkal wasn't happy with the move.


Instead of:

"We're deplatforming you because it's against our policy" (which we apparently apply incredibly inconsistently and may or may not use on other world leaders, nobody knows.)

They should have said:

"We assessed our bottom line and found that the financial value of having you on our platform was not worth the financial cost of losing the democracy and stability of our company's host country so in the interest of our shareholders you are no longer welcome."

The latter can be defined to be America only whereas the former is very messy

This is just as reductive as saying that the popular vote matters most.

The margins are small but small margins don't matter if the states are trending blue. Biden would have to historically fuck up to reverse that trend and lose both the sunbelt and Georgia. That simply isn't going to happen, Biden is the boring style of president, not the chaotic style of president. What he does won't change those trends.

The gop is absolutely going to have a very hard time making up for losing the sunbelt and Georgia.
