Dems have 131 co-sponsors so far, and the list is growing...

The piece of shit needs to be in jail.

That will hopefully come after he leaves office.

Right now, he must be impeached, whether or not the Senate moves on conviction and whether or not the 25th Amendment is invoked.

Every option of accountability matters in a serious situation like this.

For what?

Enraging Democrats isn't a crime.

Encouraging supporters to overturn a fair election is...

And don't tell me it wasn't fair: EVEN HIS OWN APPOINTED LAWYERS HAVE DISMISSED HIS RIDICULOUS CLAIMS.

Bobo is stuck on retard and lives in a fantasy world.

agreed

while i understand the school of thought about it being a detrimental move when uniting americans is vital, but if they don't impeach then he's still got room to try and run in 2024 (though it'll be more about getting money than seriously running, but still divisive for the republican party). his options need to be nipped hard in the bud, right now... others may attempt to take up his role amongst his supporters but it's the unique animus of the orange trickster that has them drooling. remove him, and they will mill in disparate groups, not united under some more cohesive umbrella of ugliness.

impeach him, (remove would be great but it's not gonna happen most likely), then prosecute the SHIT out of him, send his arse to jail. of course, the slippery fuck might just get away with everything as others take the fall for his actions, but if his route to running for public office again is denied him that's the start.

That should have already happened. There is no law against it, only a DoJ 'memo' that has never been tested in court.

He has gotten away with so much bullshit, and he gets bolder.

I remember when we all thought W was the worst president, at least he didn't declare war on HIS country.

I am on the same wavelength re Trump.
He either deliberately instigated an insurrection, or he showed atrocious poor judgment with his incendiary speech.

But I disagree with your implication that the fairness of the election should have been self-evident to most people.

Have you listened to Rudy Giuliani or other credible public figures? Their arguments re election frauds sound So plausible.

So I'm still not excluding the possibility of isolated incidents of fraud.
Just not large-scale ones, as Trump believes, as I think that the majority of people voted for Biden.

Giuliani continues to make claims after they have been debunked. That seriously undermines his credibility.

Senior WH aides: Trump cheered chaos on TV, was mad his team wasn't excited about the Capitol being breached, and is asking about staying in the WH past 1/20. (Source: Republican Ben Sasse)

If the articles of impeachment include the prohibition of running again (which I assume they will) and he is convicted, he can't run again. I would assume including this prohibition would be an incentive for Republican senators to vote for conviction.

Apparently Trump has no intention of resigning. Because once again, he doesn't recognize that he did anything wrong.

Inciting insurrection, telling rioters that he loves them (yet later telling them they are criminals who belong in jail), not calling in the national guard (and then later lying about it)... he doesn't see how any of these things are wrong.

At this point, he would only resign if he cut a deal with Pence for a full pardon before Pence leaves. That won't happen now. Pardoning Trump would kill Pence's future Presidential ambitions, just as it did for Gerald Ford.

Trump won't resign unless his cabinet comes close to declaring him incompetent, and that is not likely to happen, either.

Impeachment and post-inauguration prosecution for other crimes is probably the likely scenario for holding him accountable. He has made so many enemies during his four years of conflict and chaos.

How long should this really take? "Violated his oath of office by encouraging a mob to attack Congress in the middle of its certification of an election, resulting in several deaths."

There, I wrote it for them.

Also, Pence is no doubt aware by this point that the mob came there to kill him. That would probably influence my opinion about a pardon if it happened to me.

I don't think Trump can count on Pence for anything but not to cooperate in invoking the 25th Amendment (which would require effort and position-taking on Pence's part that he shows no ability to do). As with almost every other relationship Trump has ever had, Trump completely screwed himself by fucking up the relationship.

And Pence has no political future no matter what he now does. Like Bush the Lesser can be grateful for Trump taking over the "most bumbling" position of the presidents in history, Pence has taken over that position for vice presidents from Dan Quayle.

They may also add something about Trump obstructing the deployment of the national guard.

That's a pretty egregious abuse of power.

I think we will probably see more of Pence, unfortunately.

I think he will brand himself as a slicker and more diplomatic messenger of Trump's "policies". Lots of Republicans said they didn't like Trump's personality, but supported his "policies" (even though these policies involved racism, xenophobia, greed, and denial of science). These voters are sort of like the men who used to claim, "I read Playboy for the articles, not the photo-shoots."
