Welcome to 2021 :)

A lot of people talking about how 2020 was the most horrid year ever.
I’ve had worse though!
And then chatter about the dawn of 2021 and, well, I woke up this morning feeling pretty much the same!
*shrugs*
It’s all kinda just ticks on a line to me. (Notches on a bedpost?)

So what kinda New Years person are you? Does it make you feel feelings? Do you celebrate it, go all out? Asleep before midnight? Wake up the next day pumped and ready to clobber a fresh calendar? :)

I tend to not care much about a date on a calendar. I've done the party thing, the dressed-to-the-nines dining out thing...now I just wanna be home and chill. Have a drink, and if I'm awake at midnight? Okay. Last night the fam woke me at 5 minutes to midnight.

All of my goals are longer-term. So I'm not one to wake up and feel the need to flip a switch on January 1 and kick ass. Marathon, not a sprint, right? This morning felt like the morning before.

I was pretty fortunate that 2020 didn't bring as much sorrow or disconnection as it did for many. I'm grateful for that.

Count me as a New Year’s Eve-er! I consider it the end of the winter solstice partay. Celebration is in order, even if I stay home instead of hitting the town. Resolutions? Yup. Most years they even bear fruit!

*flips hair at all you resolution naysayers*

These last 2-3 years, eh, not so much. A couple of life crises knocked me out of the saddle.

This year, however, the expectation is to be back on Endless track.

Well, I say that, but last night found me huddled under about eight blankets by 9:30. 😂

I was thinking earlier it’s a unique holiday in that the entire globe celebrates it... and that’s pretty cool. 💚💙

That's why I couldn't find one.

It is kind of cool. The live steam concert I watched last night counted down at each time zone and that was fun. Like everyone doing the same thing as the world spun. I didn't make it to west coast time though... And I had to have a nap to get there 😂.

Hey! It is freezing here, Mr. Canadian Bond.

FREEZING

*burrows under the covers*

You need to either in a down blanket or some heavy wool ones then. If one heavy blanket and a bedspread won't take care of it then your sleeping in a deep freezer.;)

It looks like a lot of people have had worse years than 2020 (including me—I actually had a pretty good year, personally). I’m not going to bore everyone with the half full glass routine, but, in many ways, it is how you look at things. A lot of really great things happened in 2020 that people are too quick to overlook.

My thinking is that, due to COVID, there was a collective dread that translated into most people thinking that we were experiencing a cursed year, when, in fact, it was a pretty normal year that happened to also have a horrific pandemic. A moment in time to remind us that no matter how cool your iPhone is shit can get real in a hurry.

The media wanted us to focus on riots, crazy politicians and death counts. But in reality (and the vast majority of the world) people came together, helped their (literal) neighbors, cooperated with each other and took more time to realize what really matters in life. There was suffering. There always is. There will continue to be suffering.

But in general people are good (way more than we give ourselves credit for).

2020: We faced a global pandemic. We didn’t panic. We got a vaccine faster than any time in human history. We turned a corner on space travel. We became more self reliant. And we re-remembered that life is far more fragile than we remembered the first time—we seem to need to be reminded of that one often.

Plus, have you guys heard about boobs? They really make life awesome.

I'm with hotwords.

I lost family to the pandemic, had to evacuate when the state I live in spontaneously combusted, was housebound for nine months because of a pandemic that could actually kill me and a hellish pregnancy that tested my body to its limits.

It was still a pretty freaking awesome year. I learnt a lot about myself and society. I'm still here. I am loved. Life is good.

Late night question but I think evening time is a good time to dig deep:
Rollercoaster rides or merry go rounds?

I was thinking rollercoasters too but then also... *carousel horses* 💕

The circus and the crew, well, they're just passing through, making sure the merry still goes 'round...

Not much for rollercoasters, but I did like Sam's Town.

That’s a very obscure neo-punk musical reference

Merry go rounds. I don’t like roller coasters. But the rides where you spin around and the floor drops? Those are fun.

What about that pirate ship ride?
Thoughts?

No no...I’m very simple. :). The ride I’m thinking of is one where it spins and everyone is stuck to the wall so when the floor drops, it doesn’t matter bc you’re stuck to the wall.

I used to see this at the fair, I'm originally from Hicksville, but I have a strict "I'm not riding anything they can put up in 30 minutes in the dark" policy. It's fun though? It looks like I'd hurl the moment it was over. And only not during because of the centrifugal force.

THE GRAVITRON! Yasss!

Fuck yes it’s fun!

And back in the olden days, hundreds of years ago, when I was a wee teen, you could take off your safety belt and turn upside down and you’d stick to the wall upside down. Epic.

Now they basically send you to jail for upside down gravitronning. Pity. It’s a rite of passage.
