In my first year on Lit, I submitted 20 stories for a total of 324.4K words. My weighted average ranking of my stories is 4.78 with the low being 4.47 and the high being 4.87 (x3). My stories have been read/accessed 168,834 times in total. 19 of my stories got the coveted red 'H.':)

How did you do in 2020?

My first year here I spent reading and writing a single story of a 119,000 words long. It was published in five parts and took a year to write. It is still there but in a different form from the original as I took all the sex scenes out as I felt they got in the way of telling the story. What I did, is just close the bedroom door to the camera. The current size is 92,000 works.

I no longer know what the original stats were as I took it down for a while to be published over at Excessica, but currently it is sitting at 4.87/154 and 5,128 views.

I currently have 178 stories published although some of those are the parts of a bigger work.

I have published over 1.5 million words since starting to write.

I haven't written anything for this site since 2019. I am working on changing that, but words aren't promises until they are on paper.

The last story I attempted to write, "Fairweather Park," was intended to be satire about censorship as well as a parody of erotic tropes. I aimed too high. I was working on Chapter Four and midway through I ran out of gas. I had a whole storyline planned, arcs and sagas, even. By the end the reader would 'get' the point.

But I failed, and I was embarrassed, so I took a "break" and mostly wrote movie reviews in 2020. I also tried to journal a lot of the frustration I felt about the pandemic and the ongoing shit sandwich.

If I ever get another story up on this site, I will probably delete Fairweather Park.

Wow, your stats are good. And you’ve been really productive.

I published my first story in May, and in total I published 17 stories. Of those 13 are now hot. There was a week or two all of mine were hot at the same time, and I'll cherish that as a warm memory, because since then I’ve published two that’ll never get there :) Two are bobbing near the line.

Of the 17 stories 8 are from male perspective, 7 from female, two half and half. I covered categories Mature, Gay Male, Lesbian, Transgender & Crossdressers, Humor & Satire, Erotic Couplings, First Time, Exhibitionists & Voyeur, and Romance, which seems to be my spiritual home with six stories. I think almost everything I write is a romance, regardless of category.

I’ve published 209 393 words, had 159 950 views and my average rating is 4.66. What would be interesting to know is the orgasm count. So far no one has confessed wanking to any of mine, but several commentators have said they cried... not quite the reaction I was aiming for :D (well, seriously, mine aren’t all that masturbatable, so I fear crying over them is as good as it gets.)

I was the most surprised and proud of my winter competition story, which by my observations finished in the top 10%, it was 11th or 12th of 124 stories. I’ve enjoyed competitions as a means to get more visibility, I never thought I’d ever come so close to the top.

All in all it’s been a good journey. I’ve had wonderful comments and made a few friends. I didn’t anticipate I would be so keen to talk with other authors, it wasn’t even in my mind when I published my first. The community here has been an awesome addition to just writing. Thank you all for that, and a happy new year!

Wow, congratulations, those are excellent stats. The answer to "How did you do in 2020?" is "Not quite as good as Candy."

First year on Lit. Starting in June, I posted six stories for the year, totaling about 77K words. Five stories are between 4.68 and 4.83, with the 4.83 story sitting at #32 on the all-time list in the NC/R category, which I am very happy with. The sixth story has a rating of 4.21, which is fine; it was a more somber tone and I didn't expect it to do as well. About 127K views total, 99K on the one story.

Looking forward to 2021, to keep reading some fun stories here and to see if I can keep improving!

2020 was my second year on Lit (published my first story in March 2019).
I published 12 stories in 2020; 11 have an "h" (all but the 750 word story in LW).
One story was briefly #1 on the BDSM top list, and is now #20.
That story has 181k views, which is a lot for that category.

A story i published in 2019 tied as the Reader's Choice category winner for BDSM.

I have no idea how many words I wrote total. And i only wrote in a few categories.
I didn't manage to enter any contests.

But I think the quality of my stories improved.

Congrats, Candy, you had a great first year here.

I had 73 entries posted in 2020, with 55 of them registering Hot. Not nearly the overall rating success you had, though.

(I also had 16 works published to the marketplace in 2020 under various pen names.)

I'm curious how the average is weighted. And importantly, as of when?

There seems to be so much 1-bombing in my categories (nothing controversial, just EC, E&V, Romance, Humor) that the scores all go up and down like a SpaceX rocket. I started one year ago too, noticed what was happening in March, kept track after that, and found 54 1-bombs on my 15 stories since. Also, I don't do series, which seem to help scores, and I don't do particularly good sex scenes . . . . so I'm pretty happy with an erotic story average of 7.92 (and all H's). BUT, that's for the HIGHEST post-sweep scores I've happened to notice for each story, so it's not really comparable to your score. My lowest average for any given day has been much lower. Take today, for example: 4.76.

On that basis, I've had stories with 100 votes at 4.86, 4.88 and 4.89, and if they swept my latest it should be 4.87. But all those stories are under 4.84 right now.

Are some people not being shelled like this? I take it as a kind of perverse compliment, but it doesn't help my writing-improvement program!

I haven't been nearly as productive as Ms. Kane; four stories totaling 78,282 words. The readers viewed them nearly 150,000 times, and handed them an averages score of 4.67.

The stories were all published between late March and mid-August. Since then I've been trying to finish off an old series, which is a really unproductive effort.

I don't see what you're complaining about.

Stories - 7
Words - 159276
Average rating - 4.85
Awards - 1 third place
Pressure - What pressure?

I haven't been as motivated to look up the stats, but I did count 27 stories published this year (out of 80 total stories published). A good chunk of them were 750 word entries, so the stats are probably not real impressive. A lot of people took great pains to shit all over everybody's 750 word stories.

I have probably another 10 just waiting for closure and editing. With another 15 in outline form.

I thought I would have more time to write since I no longer had to spend a fraction of my life commuting once things got locked down and I worked from home, but it didn't seem to work out that way.

Oh well, 2021 is here and it is time to look forward and not back.

James

Right. There were a lot of clueless readers of that exercise. It's a good exercise, but I wouldn't suggest trying it again at a site like Literotica (in contrast to those who say this is a sophisticated reading site).

Five stories in that year for an average of 4.67. My India vs Australia romance was my longest story to date with 44k words and is sitting at 4.9. It was also the most fun to write as it was a collaboration with Sweetdreamssss.

Two stories had a pandemic theme. One was specifically written for the comp, and one just popped up late in the year.

2020 was the year in which I posted several stories. Almost without exception, they amused and entertained my ten fans - which is nice. They also seem to have pissed off several squadrons of one-bombers. Oh, well. :)

This was a low-output year for me, compared with previous years. Only 5 stories published in 2020, and three were for the 750-word contest. Those stories naturally drove my average score down a lot, since they tend to do poorly for most people. And one of my remaining stories was about Hobbit sex, and obviously there were people who didn't know what to make of that.

On a more positive note my older stories have continued to do well, and that's gratifying. My Late Night story, published in 2017, will pass a million views in a couple of months and currently is number 93 on the all-time most favorited story toplist, and still moving up.

I hope to be a lot more productive in 2021, but I'm not going to make explicit plans or goals like last year because they didn't help the creative juices flow.

Okay, you made me go back and look.

Thirteen submissions. Six of those are from my Sci-Fi series Lost Colony and have earned ratings from 4.65 to 4.73 (I'm too lazy to average them right now). I'm very pleased with that. Readership isn't that high, predictably slipping from the first chapter, although I'm pleased to see that the latest chapter trended up, along with its ratings.

My BDSM and non-con stories are not surprisingly more variable, and more likely to draw criticism. These stories express my most strongly-held fantasies however, so I'll keep writing them.

I consider it a good year. Lost Colony is coming along nicely, and gives me confidence both to continue it, and possibly write a non-erotic novel at some point.

My IRL sex life continues to be varied and surprising, despite covid, and has found its way into more than one of my submissions.

I'm curious how the average is weighted. And importantly, as of when?

I take a snapshot of my Stories page every day and save it in Excel. I can graph whatever stats I want. For my stats above, they were taken from my snapshot on 12-31-20.

As for the weighted average, suppose I have a story that is rated at 4.8 and a story rated at 4.77

Without weighting, the average of the two stories would be 4.785 which would round up to 4.79, but taking into account that the lower rated story has 100 votes and the higher rated story has only 50 votes, the weighted average would be 4.78

[(4.8 x 50 + 4.7 x 100) / 150] = 4.78

That's an interesting approach. I don't use weighting to calculate my voting average. Partly because I'm lazy but also because I'm not sure it gives me better information. Once a story has 100 votes it's a pretty solid indicator of its probable long term score and I'm not sure a 100 vote story should count less than a 500 vote story.

I can see using that weighting if the scores you're averaging are all for chapters in a single story and you want one score for the story. Otherwise, I'm not sure it's very meaningful.

But either way, it's just a number.

I wrote 13 stories for the year as follows:

Group Sex - 1
Lesbian Sex - 1
Erotic Horror - 1
Humor/Satire - 1
Fetish - 4
Incest/Taboo - 5

Of the 13 stories, 2 were set in the 1950s, 3 in the 1960s, 1 in the 1990s, 3 in the 2000s, 3 in the 2010s and 1 in 2020.

The Humor/Satire story was the 750 word contest story, but very few people read the stories there and they ironically don't seem to have much of a sense of humor. I wouldn't post in that category again.

I got some positive feedback with some of the Incest/Taboo stories I wrote, but again managed to annoy the readers there, however not as much as in 2019 when my story series 'Body Swap With Sister's Boyfriend' proved to be Literotica's answer to Freddy Got Fingered.

My foray at Group Sex - Grumpy Humphrey's Easy Wife - was a bit of a flop. I thought the readers would really like a story where a strict teacher's slut wife has an orgy with his students, but it scored poorly.
