Endless Ends

Whatever it is
It’s got nothing to do
With my sex podcast
Nor my dead threads
:D

Welp. It’s official. I am in over my head.

Not sexually.

Nope.

Sadly.

Now if Trekka would simply start a sex podcast or resurrect her dead threads there might be hope. :p

See, this right here just makes me suspicious.

Jenny! So suspicious! :p

You would be proud, btw. Today I found out for myself that Buc-ee’s does indeed have fudge. Surprisingly good, and, at a guess, twelve different kinds!

Hotwords! Your torso is back! The pretty lights AV was nice, but now, once again, all is right with the world.

I couldn’t find my Christmas AV, turns out it was still on my old porn laptop, Porntop?
Glad it was worth looking for. :D

You have a laptop exclusive to pornographic content?!

Like...porn you like, or where you recorded your own porn?

No! Don't answer!

I’m torn. My first reaction is extreme embarrassment. On the other hand, I’m deeply impressed at your methodical laptop organization.

I work with multimedia and I’m always concerned I’m going to send a client the “wrong” clip ;)

So I bought a cheap laptop years ago “for personal use” (totally separate from my work computer. Not even the same OS) so as to not have any embarrassing situations with clients/employers.

I won’t answer your question about my own personal pics, but I’ve been nude on Lit once or twice and those pics must have originated from somewhere. :p

Still embarrassed, but I'm dropping that to :eek::eek: on a 5  scale. Simply because of method and the  factor of pre-problem circumvention.

I am totally ignoring the last sentence.

Otherwise I'll have to bump you another .

:p

In other news, I snatched a little time yesterday and watched the first half of Too Late For Tears (1949)

Today, with a little luck *crosses fingers and toes* second half!

This movie is different from my stable of noirs. Interesting. I will have comments. And I am appreciating how Mr. Duryea garnered his reputation.

Alrighty. Too Late For Tears.

This noir has a lot of grit and very little gloss. All hardboiled and no romanticization, i.e. heart of gold characters. People were just plain old good or bad. Very little, if any, shades of grey.

Duryea was great! The absolute epitome of bad guy, tough and venal, yet weak at the core. I will defiantly be watching Johnny Dangerously to see the parody.

(Autocorrect changed Dangerously to Danderously, which tickles me no end for some silly reason. :cattail:)

Our *heroine* was…wow. There was an awful lot of killing for someone who, and I quote, “Didn’t want to. Didn’t think they could. Didn’t mean to.”. All that lovely money. After watching I am glad greed isn’t one of my deadly sins!

I’ll watch another one or two from this list, but I’m not sure this level of hardboiled is for me. I am a delicate little thing after all.

*flips hair*

:p

Glad you watched it. And yes, I agree it is much more hard than polish. I should also have mentioned Lizbeth Scott who is in so many of these type of movies. I always thought she was what they were trying to make Barbara Stanwyk into for Double Indemnity. The ugly wig they put on her to take away the glamour. Lizbeth had that kind of sleazy feel naturally—which I mean as a compliment even though it doesn’t sound that way.

Anyway, I like the gritty noir because it offers an image of a time that is usually shown to be more Leave it to Beaver than what really goes on behind those white picket fences.

It reminds me that times really haven’t changed, just the cars, clothes, music and hair. :)

Oooh! I agree completely with your assessment of Lizbeth Scott. She even managed to look *hard* physically, not just in action. I have not seen her in anything else, but her portrayal was so spot on that I found myself wondering a bit if that was her natural demeanor. You know, how some actors act and how some simply portray the same character in every part? It leaves you pondering whether or not they are just, in effect, playing themselves. Which, in her case.

Agreed. Every generation likes to think they are so different, but, in reality, people, and the things that motivate them remain very much the same.

No-one likes it when you say that, but it is so very true….

Reading the Litequette thread reminded me of the movie Gaslight.
That one is pretty great too. I’m not sure if it counts as noir, but still . . .

Hahaha! I love Littiquette. :p

That. Is. One. Epic. Film.

Seriously, one of my favorites. it is pitch perfect, and I am not even a Charles Boyer fan. Ingrid Bergman is wonderful as a woman who thinks she is losing her mind, and it even features a super young Angela Lansbury!

#angelalansburyforever

Huh. Is it noir? Physiological thriller, certainly. What does actually constitute the holy grail of noir?

I find myself not entirely sure….

I don’t know that there is an actual accepted definition but something like . . .
Must have:
Femme Fatale
Shadowy cinematography (or subtext, if not a movie)
Post War
No “good” characters
A less than happy ending
Must star Dan Duryea (just kidding)
Very American (even though it’s based on a French concept)

Something like that.

And in other fascinations from the past. I want a Candlestick phone.

Mind, I had NO IDEA what this was until about two hours ago, but now, obvs, I must have one.

I may even adopt the Gibson Girl look sported by G.C. Thomson on the Wiki page. I mean, c'mon. Who doesn't want to be the, "personification of the feminine ideal of physical attractiveness,"?

It's something I think about daily.

:p

These two for sure! And…crime? Wouldn't crime by a prerequisite?

I had absolutely no idea noir was a French concept.

(Though given the name, noir, I suppose that should have been self evident.

But I'm an idiot, so…. :p)

Background on that? *flips through mental rolodex* I do not recall any French noir films.

Yes, crime. Definitely. I’m sure I left out a bunch of themes.

Also, the Gibson Girl kind of looks like Angela Lansbury. Interesting how all this is connected. :D

Also the movie Dark City (1998?) is a really good sci-if neo-noir. If that’s something you’re into. I didn’t think I would like it, but it was really good.
Jennifer Connelly was born to be in a noir film and Kiefer Sutherland plays an interesting Peter Lorre-type character. Also William Hurt as the gumshoe detective! What’s not to like? :)

I think you managed to hit all key features. You are an education in noir. :p

(Seriously. I have learned much from you, Hotwords san.)

Angela Lansbury. A seductress if there ever was one. *nods*

I would be a sexy Gibson Girl. All….

Idk, someone sexy get in here and tell me how it's done!

:p
