And that's the death of cinema.

That'll force Disney to do the same and, hopefully, with lessons learned from its Mulan disaster.

Tell you what, it will be the end of cams on TPB.

I think it's wonderful. But I'm an outlier, a cinephile who has not been to the theater more than three times in the last 5 years.
I have a home theater with a projector and big sounds. It's the like the theater, but on my couch with my fridge and liquor cabinet nearby. I can get my dick out, whatever.

Anyway, I'd argue cinema ended the day the Transformers movie franchise began. I prefer small indie theaters, my last trip was to see Fantastic Planet to a packed house. The place roared.

This.
Minus the dick

It is all kinda sad though.

Hm... I wonder if this means movies are gonna get even more geographically gated, or less. I'm not sure I can get HBO Max here.

Sky show the HBO stuff in the UK.

Don't jump to judgment too quickly, chere. Walking around ones own personal space with their bits windmilling about is a sign of a healthy and free mind.

I'm looking at the WB list for 2021, and the only movie for the entire year that moves the needle for me is Dune. And I don't show up for remakes. But for this one, I'll very probably make an exception. Further, I'll probably see Matrix 4, maybe Suicide Squad, and that's about it. All of these I'd have waited out the theatrical release for to watch at home. How far we've come from the days when Netflix couldn't send you a DVD for like 45 days after the street date. IP hoarders, Fuck Em.

Obviously, Netflix will then be airing many more shows in Czechoslovakian. :)

I like cinemas for the sake of the occasion of it. Major downside is the popcorn, buckets of cola, crinkly sweet wrappers and other people... otherwise, love it.

I'd like to see Ammonite but don't have Sky etc.... guess I'd wait till it's out on disc or Prime

What was your address again?

i do not want to step into a theater again, i dont feel that it is safe nor will it be for a long time

i also want to be able to whip out my dick when i watch a movie

I can't judge here. I was physically restrained by the usher for waving my vagina at the three rows behind me during The Last of the Mohicans. In my defence I was young and foolish and deeply moved by the Clannad soundtrack.

I love the cinema. One of the few things I've greatly missed during lockdown.

There are times when nothing beats a theater experience. It will change things...but they will survive

Average Price of a movie ticket in 2000: $7.00 (U.S. dollars)
Average price of a movie ticket in 2019: $17.00. (more than double.)

(Note that the Average income in U.S. dollars in the has NOT doubled since 2000.)

Average price of popcorn bag in 2019: $6.00
Average price of small drink: $3.00 (that's for a 12 ounce drink- note that restaurants typically charge around half that, for a 16 ounce drink).

THIS has been the death of cinema for many people: This kind of price gouging had effectively killed the cinema experience even before the virus did.

Paradigms change. Sometimes slowly. Sometimes quickly. The question becomes, how adaptable are you? I have a huge TV. I have surround sound. I have a theater experience without the cost and dealing with other people's nonsense. I don't think I've been to the movies in 15 years. There's better ways to spend money and time.

The Hollywood elite call for higher taxes. Where they live, that wish is granted. They then ask for more money. Then they conspire to produce insipid remakes. Movie making is about the franchise. The non-comic book release is a rarity. When it's not one of those, it tends to be an exercise social justice lecturing. Audiences turn their backs. Lower volume at the venue then, too, creates higher prices. Who is to blame here?

One might do well to ask the major sports the same damned question. Why is it that during lockdown, their viewership is declining? They have a captive audience.
