Drive-thru voting follows the same procedures as in-person voting at a typical polling station, except that it is done from inside a vehicle after pulling into a tent, Hollins argued, noting that voters still must present photo ID and sign a voting roster before being handed a sanitized voting machine.

.....

It really is fascinating how much of the Republican message anymore is simply, "People who disagree with us shouldn't be permitted to vote."

Well, as Moscow Mitch put it, “The more Democrats that vote, the more republicans lose.”

The guy who instigated the lawsuit files frivelous lawsuits for a living. His name is Steven Hotze, and he is a doctor with a perpetual chip on his shoulder and enough money to continually file lawsuit after lawsuit.

He is routinely laughed out of court.

In fact, he tried this same gambit two months ago in Texas STATE court, and kept appealing his losses all the was to the TEXAS supreme court, which turned him down (again).

He then tried for a "do over" in FEDERAL court, which most Federal judges do not approve of.

Unfortunately for America, and fortunately for Hotze, the purportedly "random" Federal judge selection process dumped his steaming pile of lawsuit in to the courtroom of District Judge Andrew Hanen, who never met a conservative lawsuit he didn't like. Hanen routinely tries to "legislate from the bench" and is one of the most overruled-on-appeal judges in America today.

Hanen not only granted the lawsuit "standing", but actually scheduled a hearing on this last-minute lawsuit today (Monday), before even serving notice to the Harris county election supervisor of the lawsuit.

I'm sure legal Kleagle HisArpy will correct me if I am wrong, but it would appear to me that someone deserves notice of a lawsuit prior to being hauled into court on virtually no notice.

But they run around claiming to be patriots and all about Law and Order.

They are full of shit.

Texas would be blue if it were not for the massive voter supression from the Repugs.

Things are not going well for the Republicans in Federal court this morning

Hanen asking plaintiffs' attorneys: "Didn't we test this in the primaries this summer?"

Drive-through voting has "been going on for two weeks," Hanen said. "Why am I just getting this case?"

Texas was once a blue state. Republicans “fixed” (rigged) it.

Texas was once a blue state. Republicans “fixed” (rigged) it.

Texas was traditionally a conservative state, they were blue back when "conservative Democrats" existed, pre-Reagan.

They touted their no personal income tax, business-friendly environment and businesses relocated to the Austin-San Antonio-Houston triangle. This is now the engine that drives the state, not oil.

The problem is, more transplants have more education and demand more from their government. Blue grew, Red shrank. Republicans have been able to keep in power through gerrymandering and limiting the Latino vote.

But Democrats keep encroaching on Republican strongholds. They came close to defeating Ted Cruz in 2018....I think they might just go over the top in 2020.

Exactly. I would agree with your assessment for 2020 as well, if ...and it’s a big IF... the elections were fair and accurate. Sure would be poetic justice to see the state flip blue

The suit consist of allowing votes cast via drive by. State voting laws prohibit it and laws have to be followed to the letter. The only way to change voting laws is by legislating a change to the law, why can't people understand that. The suit did not say just dems votes it stated all 127,000 votes. To say the suit its too late in the process well, ignorance of the law is no excuse. That county manager should perhaps be fired.

It’s a frivolous lawsuit based on some pretty flimsy technicalities. The fact there was any such law in the first place is a prime example of voter suppression. Yes those 127,000 voters would include votes for both Democratic and Republican candidates, and it’s wrong in every single case! The fact that the case was brought up in an area that leans heavily towards Democrats is pure coincidence I’m sure

Funny how Republicans keep trying to stop the American People from voting.

It's almost as if they know that their endless endorsement of greed, racism, theocracy, misogyny, slave-wages, patriarchy and right-wing terror is incredibly unpopular and the only way they can win elections if if the majority of the American People don't vote!

Even today repukes are trying to throw out 160,000 votes from a Texas democrap stronghold. The repuke Party has turned into Thugs.

Judge rejects GOP effort to throw out 127,000 Houston votes

Miami Herald

Dozens of undelivered ballots found at Miami-Dade post office with mail backlog

Florida House of Representatives Democratic Leader Kionne L. McGhee (D-Cutler Bay)
said federal officials had ordered resources be sent to the area to address the situation, but
that he had not yet seen evidence of them. He advised anyone who had concerns about their
mail-in ballot to instead vote early.

“There is no way this mail will be sorted by Tuesday unless they send armies,”
McGhee said.

Odd ruling in Texas. Activist Republican federal judge issues very narrow ruling "plaintiffs cannot show harm they would suffer if votes were counted", then invites the entire 5th Circuit court of appeals to technically invalidate the cast ballots because voting in your car is not specifically authorized by law.

The federal judge threw out the case because it lack standing.

Since this was upheld by the TX Supreme Court, it never should have gone to the US Court. Friggin' GOPpers can't decide if they want State's Rights or Federal Intervention.

Four months after drive thru voting was announced and planned in Harris County; two weeks into early voting, Republicans file lawsuit seeking to toss out 127,000 legal votes.

This is voter suppression.

This is vote rigging.

This is the your Republican Party.

This is the party that does not want your vote counted.
.

The Republicans are fanatically dedicated to stopping the American People from voting. What does that say about them?

The idiots on the Eighth Circuit who ruled that Minnesota had to set aside ballots that arrive after tomorrow said that the people who brought the case had standing because every additional counted vote dilutes their vote. Seriously.

I saw that, and I’m glad. Those citizens should have their votes counted. Period.

Absolutely! I’m in full agreement with the judge. It would be a travesty in judgment to disenfranchise those voters after the fact.
