Agreed. There are pretty compelling arguments either way, but it has to be consistent. Personally, I’d be inclined to give a dying person one final vote. It’s not likely to be a factor in who wins in the elections, but it would probably mean quite a lot to surviving family and community.

If a ballot was legally requested and returned within the time frame agreed upon by the state legislature I can't see any reason why that vote shouldn't be counted. If it is the law that votes get discarded under those circumstances in some states then the law should change. Denying a dying persons last chance to participate in democracy due to a cruel technicality is a travesty.
