Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, said former President Donald Trump would have lost in Texas in the 2020 election if his office had not successfully blocked counties from mailing out applications for mail-in ballots to all registered voters.

Harris County, home to the city of Houston, wanted to mail out applications for mail-in ballots to its approximately 2.4 million registered voters due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the conservative Texas Supreme Court blocked the county from doing so after it faced litigation from Paxton's office.

"If we'd lost Harris County—Trump won by 620,000 votes in Texas. Harris County mail-in ballots that they wanted to send out were 2.5 million, those were all illegal and we were able to stop every one of them," Paxton told former Trump adviser Steve Bannon during the latter's War Room podcast on Friday.

"Had we not done that, we would have been in the very same situation—we would've been on Election Day, I was watching on election night and I knew, when I saw what was happening in these other states, that that would've been Texas. We would've been in the same boat. We would've been one of those battleground states that they were counting votes in Harris County for three days and Donald Trump would've lost the election," the Republican official said.

The fear has never been about stopping voter fraud - it's always been about stopping the exercise of a free and fair democratic vote.

Okay, on what basis did he say that they were illegal votes? This is very relevant, especially since I just moved out here two years ago, and if they were calling votes "illegal," that weren't, I would have cause for concern. Well, maybe not if I'm voting in person, but still....what is the criteria for lumping them all together as "illegal," anyway?

A 2020 analysis of U.S. election laws by Northern Illinois University ranked Texas as the most difficult state for voting. While absentee voting is allowed in the state for anyone over the age of 65 without an excuse, the state requires those younger to have a valid reason for requesting an absentee ballot. While Democrats believed the COVID-19 pandemic should be an acceptable excuse for any registered voter to cast their ballots by mail, Paxton and other Texas Republicans disagreed.

I can confirm this kind of thing from recent phone calls to the proper authorities. They're very strict these days about what they allow for absentee or mail-in ballots, certainly here in my part of Texas, which is not too far from Harris County.

I believe, after reading the article, that they used that basis - that those under 65 must have a valid qualifying reason for absentee ballots - to deem them, the 2.5m mail in ballots, "illegal".

That seems very plausible. If a pandemic isn't a valid reason, then what the hell is?

I don't think they would accept any reason.
Yep. That's the point, I think. They won't do anything that might risk the White House. Period. As with the other case, this is the "break the emergency glass" mode. They will pull out every stop to get him elected. Every. Fucking. Stop.

Ironically, Paxton was impeached not that long ago, but not convicted. He's just that kind of guy.

It is the type of thing that makes me especially irritated with the non-voting American electorate.

So the question is that if Paxton knew that trump wasn’t going to win Texas without intervention and that it was playing out the same way in swing state after swing state then why was Paxton even a speaker at the ‘Stop the Steal’ rally on J6?

Paxton is the sort of guy who would sign up for any regime that might benefit him personally, regardless of the nature of it. If, by some weird chance, the likes of ISIS took over the country, he would be putting his wife in a burqa and shouting "Allahu akbar" at the top of his lungs. That's just my impression of the guy from living in Texas the past couple of years now.

His trial on securities fraud starts next year, hopefully.

Anything

and

Everything

On the R side should be done to make sure Trump WINS

Do the numbers and Paxton is about as accurate as Trump. He's bragging about something that just is not true
Harris County DID want to mail out ballots to all registered voters in 2020 due to Trump's botched handling of the Covid pandemic. Paxton DID manage to prevent that, but Harris county (specifically Lina Hidalgo) came up with some novel workarounds such as "voting drive-throughs" where you could vote in your car) and extended early voting that gave Ken Paxton (along with Satan's Texas Ambassador Greg Abbott) fits.
