It's been a few years since I had an occasion to dress up.
I think the only couples costume I've done was she went as Dorothy and I was the scarecrow.
I won a contest back in college going with my roommate and 2 friends as the band Culture Club. Most of the credit goes to my roomier, who, with the help of a great wig, looked just like Boy George and a couple of the women on my hall that did the make-up for us. I likely looked the least like the guy I was supposed to be (lead guitar). Everyone said I looked more like Adam Ant. Obviously, that Halloween stands out in my memory.
My most frequent costume is Little Alex from A Clockwork Orange. Last couple times I wore it, it didn't get recognized, so I stopped. Went to an Academy Awards party where we had to dress as a movie character and got asked if I was Babe (Babe Ruth movie, not the pig) and some other shit. No one got it. I'm not sure anyone there saw the movie. Made me feel stupid walking around with a jock strap and big cup over my pants and attached to suspenders with eye makeup and fake lashes on one eye while carrying a baseball bat.
I would dress up if I had the occasion but we don't really any more. I plan to give out candy, weather permitting. I'm concerned that we will be a disappointment to the kids. About 15 years ago, I decided to go "full size" candy bars. It was a big hit and I got a real kick out of seeing the kids reaction (and catching some kids coming back for 2nds)
This year, the plan is setting up a table in the front yard, place big box of candy on table w/o touching candy. Set up a fireplace, cooler and a couple chairs about 15 feet from said table and watch the kids come by. The other option was buying a remote control car and wearing gloves to handle the candy, which would be delivered to the kids by the car. I have no clue if there will be trick or treaters. If not, I'm likely going to need a better post-holiday diet.
