How many lives will be saved?

I posted this in the Hope Hicks thread yesterday morning, before we knew Trump was infected:

“Forget about the justice aspect of Trump getting COVID-19 and forget about vengeance. Think about this, and I mean it with all sincerity and no ill will toward anyone: How many lives would he saved if Trump were to die from COVID? That could be the only thing which would convince 40% of the country that this is not a hoax and they should take precautions.”

Your thoughts?

If Trump were to die after losing the election but before leaving office, Pence would probably do a little better job of convincing the nation to follow public health measures. Then Biden-Harris would take over in a massive teachable moment to the nation about basing policies on facts and science rather than on the fee-fees of a cult leader.

If Trump were to die after winning the election, Pence would be do better than Trump did on public health, but be in the same situation as Trump on the denial of climate science, reproductive rights, minority rights, ridiculous and unsustainable income inequality, and separation of church and state. Most Pence policies would be based on short-sighted economic interests, religion, and other fee-fees.

I would hope that Trump getting the Covid would be enough to give his supporters a clue--but maybe not, considering how they have responded so far.

Both parties could start nominating younger candidates and requiring competence in the VP slot.

If he were to die, Trump’s death would likely receive a better response and respect than he displayed for Senator John McCain, and Representatives John Lewis and Elijah Cummings.

Not because he is more deserving, but because nobody else is as petty, spiteful or childish as him.

Really?? Have you seen Twitter?!

A clue to what exactly?

That ORANGE MAN BAD!!!???

LOL Hype hype hype it up....stay scared, remove yourself from the economy :D

His chances of surviving the political repercussions of the stance he has taken on Covid, though, are around 15 percent--just about where his "could shoot on 5th Avenue" supporters hover.

The snag here is that younger candidates lack experience of any sort and generally would do a poor job in the role. As for VPs honestly aside from possibly Gore none in the last thirty years have been incompetent. ITs just that the real role of the VP is to be on standby. They get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to be on call and do virtually nothing else.

This ironically is specifically why an Obama/Hillary ticket would have been amazing. You have the fairly charismatic president out front doing things and the hyper competent been in this for decades VP and who actually loves the nitty gritty wonky detail work that very few people have the patience or talent for. Its pretty much wins for everybody.

Putin might have to declare bankruptcy if Trump dies.

All those loans to Trump with the United States as collateral...

The ticket you describe is pretty much exactly what the Obama/Biden ticket offered. I’d also differ with your suggestion that VP’s just sit around waiting for the president to die. Biden, for instance, was very much involved in helping to negotiate passage of the ACA.

The level of power of the VP, or even the POTUS is debatable of course, but I think it’s inaccurate to suggest they don’t do anything.

The meek will not inherit the earth.

Don't give Trump a chance to catch his breath!

If you wuss out now Biden... Fuck You!

Seriously. Cut the crap. He won't die from Covid.

Just focus on voting all the republicans out. Pay the fuck attention!

If Trump dies Nov 2nd and is elected Nov. 3rd does Pence become next Inaugurated President In January?

It depends on whom the Electoral College members vote for.

If they decide that Pence should remain Vice President and Newt Gingrich should become President, that’s what happens.

Same shit. Less orange color.

Same Supreme Court. Same Clarence Thomas in blackface (I don't know why he can get away with it.).

Biden's negotation of the ACA basically was give the Republicans everything and sit back and hope. Which I guess sorta worked. That entire fiasco is a teachable moment in Democrat weakness and the flaws in our system.

I haven't seen anything about Biden that suggests he's really that interested in the wonky stuff. Which is fine. I'm a gamer, actually make a little money off it but I have team mates who deal with "No Sean, we know you like this thing but (and then there is a math equation that includes how good my aim is and how likely I am to engage in certain fights) this is what the team needs from you" And I'm mostly "sparky sparky boom makes the enemies go brrrrrrr." And its not even that I'm ignorant its that once math starts trying to include Greek I'm a bit lost.

Biden has already taken down his trump attack ads. You think trump would have done that.

I would give that fat, lying, Orange infected fuck no quarter.

I don’t think any lives would be saved. If Trump were to die (which he is probably too mean to do), his cult followers, stoked by the myth of a “Democrat” conspiracy, would deify him as a martyr and be joined by the wobbly-kneed and the cynically opportunistic. There would probably be fatal, if sporadic, violence that would add to the collateral body count, then a political upheaval that would likely last for decades and continue to resist the advances of medicine and science. Meanwhile, as the bipartisan virus continues its work, the effects of Trump’s craven and incompetent abdication of leadership that have already poisoned our government would last well beyond his administration. Better, I think, if Trump is alive, defeated resoundingly and beyond all question in the election, and then made to spend the rest of his life being transparently prosecuted for a life of crime and malfeasance. He must be vehemently rejected as a virus himself, and his (metaphorical) corpse hung by our gate to cower any aspiring successor. I doubt, however, that we have the resolve as a country to make that happen.

[Forgot to add . . .]

Good morning!
