Encouragement from Readers

I will always respond to an e-mail or PM unless to do so would probably get into a fight, but I only occasionally respond to a comment placed directly on a story and a bit more rarely look up a profile.

I respond to all pm's and ask for more details about their opinion positive or negative. I usually get a response. I never comment on my own stories here. Other sites with more advanced comment features I at least say thnk you to each comment.

I generally respond to positive comments

I’m a new author and can’t quite believe how gratifying it is to read a positive comment.

I take the time to send a thank you.

The bizarre ones are the comments responding as if the characters are real and I’m directing them to their doom. I haven’t responded but I want to say “good thing it’s fiction dude.”

I usually respond to comments with my own comment on the story page itself. There was one person who seemed to be trolling me around every time I responded, so I eventually ignored him (I guessed from the writing style and other details that it was the same person). For other negative comments, I respond if I have a plausible rebuttal.

I always respond to PMs. Those are always positive from what I've seen so far.

I usually don't respond to people who favorite a story, although I used to. Usually, when I look at their favorites list, they have dozens if not hundreds of stories on it.

In a way, that's a HUGE compliment.
Sometimes a reader will say 'here's what I think should happen next' or 'I'd like to see them' do such and such. It shows me that people got emotionally involved with these figments of my imagination.

It's happened just once that I followed the advice of such a person. He seemed deeply disappointed - even angry perhaps - that a stand-alone story turned out a certain way. Many months later I found his comment again and tried a version that went the way he suggested (the title will be different, but the first half will be close to the original). And I think he was right because it allows the story to continue and I'm writing a series based on it.

SO I commented on one of my stories a few days ago. Someone left an Anon comment that he stopped reading after I said the female MC was a waitress.

The story in question was an incest story and I didn't mention any characters job so I was confused. I searched for the word waitress in the story, and found that I did use that word...

To describe a scene in a movie Called Bikini Bistro. The waitresses in The Movie the male MC was watching when the female came home. Dumbass thought I was saying F MC was a waitress.

Do they still teach reading comprehension in school?
