Will accent marks show up in a story?

The current story I'm working on has a few words with accent marks.

I mention Patrón Tequila at one point, and one of the character's names has a special accent. Will that show up correctly when I publish the story?

I know the rule about having to use HTML tags with italics. I've had no problems with that so far. I just wasn't sure about letters with accents.

It depends on the device. Read on a desk or laptop - they will. Read on a phone? They might.

It depends on how you make them. I use the alt key plus a numeral - é

That seems to work on most. If I use a French keyboard - they don't necessarily work.

If you are using MS Word, you will be able to insert special characters and I believe they will show up when the story is posted on the site. (They should also appear in the preview mode first.)

I have a "dummy" file permanently in the drafts folder where I can test out HTML codes and other items. Italics, bold, and the links tags all work fine. Another thing that works is the <tt> tag, which makes the text look "typewritten." That could be handy once in a while. <blockquote> doesn't seem to work

It doesn't seem that HTML linked to CSS style sheets works. I haven't figured how to change font colors yet, but maybe I've missed something. It doesn't seem crucial anyway.

Should do. My characters regularly frequent cafés, and I use the fonts available on my android keyboard, as done here.

I normally compose in Word, then copy and paste. Accents and such come through with no problem, but to confirm, take a look using the preview feature.

I've seen stories here that use Chinese characters. A few accents should be no problem at all.

To add to the pile. I compose in Google Docs across multiple devices, download to an MS Word file (but use Libre Office to do final edit and save) and submit that as an attachment. My most recent (Chlorine Dreams, link in sig) used accents for various Spanish phrases and they came through fine in the posted version.

Examples: "Si, mama, esto es Jeremías." and "If you're not too busy seducing the señoras,"

Edit: I've also used Greek letters where I was referring to (American) university sororities. Came through fine, same process.

All the ones I used show up in the standard (pc/laptop) reader and in the Lit App. I didn't use any kind of hocus pocus, I grab them off the internet off a page on a site about names.

So I guess the simple answer is... yes.

Don't use them in titles.

While the new pages rolling out are correcting this, a lot of the places showing the title won't display the correct accented characters. What will come out will look like gibberish. So avoid using them in titles for the time being.

I lightly flavor my international-setting stories with foreign phrases and dialogue (explained in English in the context) to aid setting, and I'm always surprised that all of the strange accent markings have held at Literotica. I haven't specifically researched the question, but I usually do check back to see if the accents have held.
