CHICAGO (WLS) -- Looting and property damage has been reported throughout downtown Chicago overnight.

Videos posted to social media showed large crowds breaking windows and entering stores along the Magnificent Mile.

The looting continued into early Monday morning and police could not provide details about specific incidents or numbers of arrests.

Witnesses said the looting appeared to be a coordinated effort with multiple cars dropping groups of people off, who then smash-and-grab merchandise in the store, and take off running in opposite directions before police can respond to each incident.

Authorities have to declare that we as an American society cannot and will not tolerate this animal behavior and as of this date, we will take every measure available to stop this, including the use of deadly force. Black Lives Matter justifies Chicago violence, mass looting as 'reparations'

Black Lives Matter members in Chicago held a rally on Monday to support and defend the more than 100 people who were arrested for looting in the city's downtown area the previous night.

Standing outside the police station where the arrested looters were being held, a Black Lives Matter organizer, Ariel Atkins, justified the looting and rioting — which caused an estimated $60 million in damages — as "reparations" to which the black community is entitled.

"I don't care if someone decides to loot a Gucci or a Macy's or a Nike store, because that makes sure that person eats," Atkins said, WMAQ-TV reported. "That makes sure that person has clothes."

"That is reparations," Atkins added. "Anything they wanted to take, they can take it because these businesses have insurance."

The problem is that Chicago has taken away many of the tactics police use to stop riots.

In Los Angeles during some rioting Vietnamese with Ak's and AR-15's on top of the Buildings make pretty good security guards.

The Police knew that they didn't have to bother even patrolling that few blocks.

Thousands of people came into downtown Sunday night into Monday morning looting stores, breaking windows, clashing with police, and causing widespread damage all over the downtown area.

Not many expected The Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children's Hospital, a charity for families with children in the hospital, to have their doors smashed.

"[We were] very concerned there was a lot of activity right in front of the house, people making choices that could put them at risk and put our families at risk so the staff was frightened," said Lisa Mitchell, of Ronald McDonald House Charities.

More than 30 families and their sick children were inside along with staff as they helplessly watched everything unfold outside.
