What Are You Listening To Now? 6.0

This is my first listen to this new collaboration. McStine and Minnemann play everything on the album with no guests. Sounds exactly like I would expect from these two with no complaints for that from me. I am reminded here and there of The Fringe but not overly. My one gripe is the songs are all short - clocking in at two or three minutes each with one over four minutes. I am just getting into the song when boom - it stops. I wish they had developed these a bit more.

Interesting - thanks for the write up. I was wondering about this one.

I was sadly unimpressed by Marco's solo "My Sister" album, which is why I hesitated. Perhaps I'll give it a try - I see they're on Bandcamp.

Yeah I don't know what happened to "My Sister." Overall, I enjoyed McStine and Minnemann and will play it occasionally, but not that often.

Colours out of Space

Pixie Ninja

Norwegian instrumental prog based on the short stories of H.P. Lovecraft using vintage instruments. Fun

Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise

The Dear Hunter

Love this album - play it fairly often

The Last Semblance

Alizarin

There has been an explosion of new prog last month and this month. My bank account isn't happy but the music has been great.

Back in the day, when I was younger, there was occasionally heard on the radio, music by LeRoy Anderson. A popular piece of his is called "the Typewriter", which dates back to 1950 or so.

I found it on the 'tube: The Typewriter (a concerto for orchestra and solo typewriter).
I've seen several versions of this piece and it is a good opportunity for a bit of a giggle. Try this one.

Alpha Lighting System

Just discovered this band and I really like them a lot.

Two songs from the upcoming album. The chorus of "Get Out! Now!" has amazing power and groove, but the song feels more like Meat Loaf than Ayreon. Might need a few more spins until I get it. " Hopelessly..." has a bit of "Electric Castle" vibes and the layering of sounds and vocals is very slick, but I'm not yet sold on the vocal acrobatics. Again, might be a case of "needs more spins". What these rather different songs DID manage - they sparked my curiosity for the whole thing. I'm a bit bummed out Arjen didn't continue where "The Source" left off, but I'll take a new Ayreon record and shut up. ;)

Pink Flag by Wire; Pronography by The Cure.

If you surmised my genre is late '70s/early '80s post-punk, you'd be right.

Thanks for the heads-up about the new album.

Auto-buy!

The least I can do for the good music you nudged me towards.

A propos: Do you know anything about these guys?

I get huge Enslaved vibes from that song, also a bit of "what happens if Devin Townsend and Ayreon had a baby". All in all, I'm intrigued.

I don't know them, but will give it a listen when I have a chance.

Busy weekend ahead, so I'm not sure when I'll have a chance : my latest project is going to production this weekend so I'll have a lot of work commitments tonight :( and Saturday :( :( and Sunday :( :( :( ... and I have a mountain club (local idiots who climb mountains LOL) meeting late Sunday.

But this...

...a bit of "what happens if Devin Townsend and Ayreon had a baby"...

...sounds super-intriguing!

I'm looking forward to researching it.
