Jinjer - I Speak Astronomy
https://youtu.be/KJoPIgg17U4
My lady love and I were just discussing extreme female vocals and I remembered hearing "Pisces" by Jinjer a few years ago. Didn't like it back then and a repeat listen today didn't change that. So I picked another song by them at random and tried it. They have some shred skills, all right, but in between all the instrumental olympics and extreme tonal shifts the voice provides, I fail to find a song to listen to. Also, as impressive as the singer's versatility is, I wish she'd stop with the growls. Her voice is powerful enough to work with the shred already, so tossing in the growls because she can do them is overkill.
I'll stick to Oceans of Slumber for my dose of American prog with a female singer. Who also will appear on the next Ayreon album, just as an FYI.
Imperial Triumphant : Vile Luxury
Black metal jazz made by people in weird masks.
Very strange. Very dark metal, very jazzy. Not sure if I'm going to end up loving this, or never playing it again...

Between the Buried and Me : The Great Misdirect
Spinning this again. It's quickly climbing the list of my best-ever list. Brilliant. Intense, technical, angry in parts and gentle in others - very powerful. Though - it does require you to be able to handle "cookie-monster" black metal style vocals.
