Teaching and "Our Educational System" have suffered much the same fate as "Our System of Law Enforcement" - the mission creep has come close to destroying the institution and its purpose.

Schools are now asked to provide parenting, be a food and nutrition center, provide healthcare, provide mental health counseling, be centers of physical fitness and somewhere along the way provide instruction in civics, STEM and vocational training.

Similarly, local PDs went from protect and serve to needing to be homeland security specialists, arbiters in domestic violence matters, social workers, counter-terrorism experts, have expertise in overdose prevention, anti-drug/anti-drug smuggling experts, and any number of other duties du jour based on the issue of national significance that year.

Let teachers get back to instruction in civics, STEM and vocational training.
Let cops get back to protecting and serving.
Both will produce better results.

I believe this. Independent thought, analysis and points of view are not tolerated. Several of my associates in public education have confirmed this. The student's job is to regurgitate the government's line. If a student has a different or, god forbid, opposing position, that student automatically fails.
