How Long Can You Go Without Spending Anything?

I'm not talking about recurring expense like housing, utilities, loan payments, insurance premiums and so on. For some people that includes fuel for a vehicle or transport tolls to get to and from work or school.

Groceries are necessary, but costs can be limited to minimum.

I'm talking about discretionary spending; meals out, clothes, gadgets and trinkets, event admissions, home or yard projects and so on.

I kind of went nuts on a few projects around the house recently and need to cut back severely. My plan is not to spend anything in those areas at all in July.

So, how long can you go? A week? Two weeks? A month?

with the exception of a couple of subscription costs, I have not made a single unnecessary purchase since March, and with the way the current situation is panning out, I may not make one for a few more months.

Quite a long time when you ain't got much disposable to play with, my dude!

I've definitely done multiple consecutive months like that in the past, back when my weekly household budget for me and my sibling was £20.

In the past few days, I've put things in shopping carts on a few different sites, but convinced myself at the last second not to click.

Then I get emails a few hours later 'reminding' me ......

Welcome to my life!!
Those emails are evil incarnate!

Probably 6 weeks. But I have a kid who always seems to need something.

Easily a couple of weeks. Toughest thing would be take-out food .
I went 17 straight weeks in Barbados (Dec. 20th 2018 - Apr. 18th 2019) not accessing the internet just to prove I could.

When we were free to go out and enjoy a nice dinner we would go out once a week. It's our reward for longs hrs we both work through the week...cloths? l don't like shopping for clothes...l'm a plain Jane, tank tops and jeans...trinkets? nope lol and as far as home reno's l update when needed...pretty fussy with my house...l like it to be updated and clean.

I can go almost indefinitely without discretionary spending. I'm kind of anti-consumerist, so I despise buying things just to buy them. Except for books. That's my one weakness. Especially cheap books. That's right: I'm a cheap book whore. Got a problem with that?? ;)

Now THAT is cool. Would love to do that.

I could probably last a month. I’ve been a money saver since I was a kid though

I went months at one point. I had an extremely low income and had to budget like crazy. Ever since then, I find it difficult to treat myself, so I often do go long periods without any luxury purchases

I actually could go for months. I'm more into when I go shopping I buy many things, rather than shopping often.

That depends on how much I'm earning.
lol, Hard to spend what you don't have.

Months. We've done it before. Because we had to. Used up what we had and then did without.

It's an extremely stressful way to live. I wouldn't recommend it.
