...he's just a clown. He must be canceled, however, because the new ground rules have been firmly established. However, I oppose this. He is an utter jerk. Self important narcissist, but everyone knows he's just a clown. He did things that were funny at the time, and quite frankly, would be funny now. A lack of sense of humor is one of the primary characteristics of a terrorist, so Jimmy provides a valuable service. If he wants to "evolve", and become even more un-funny than he is now, he should have that opportunity, but he can't unfortunately because of the fair application of the new rules.

Isn't there a thing called freedom of speech in the US? Which means the network he broadcasts under kind of controls if he get cancelled right? Not someone who may or may not enjoy his program.

Has nothing to do with free speech.
Whether or not he ever gets cancelled has everything to do with viewers and advertisers and almost nothing to do with the network itself.

Megyn Kelly thought it was acceptable to do black face for Halloween or as a “joke” too. Look what happened to her. It will be interesting to see if the network treats him the same way or if he just gets a slap on the wrist

No it is a 100% network decision. What drives the decision can come from what you state ( networks are all about profit, just look to Fox). The point about Free Speech was made to show our Racist friend he can't just muzzle someone because he doesn't like or enjoy the program.

Kelly just talked about it, didn't actually do anything. However she had a low rated show and nobody really liked her much.
Kimmel actually did it but has a high rated show and is well liked.

It's how the world works.

Side-tracking from the OP a bit:

What Megan Kelly did was either a stupid gaffe or racist.
But I never understood the hype over JUSTIN TRUDEAU's blackface 30+ YEARS AGO.

Because where I grew up (a country with close to 0 African immigration)
ghosts or black faces during camp costume parties were a common sight.
Easiest costume parties: black shoe polish and white bedsheets.
And none of the kids thought about the racist connotations.
--Whereas now that access to the net made people more mindful, doing a black face would be a no-no.

Were Halloween black faces (in US/Canada) intentionally or unintentionally racist 30 years ago?

Kimmel is a loser: White. Privileged. Misogynist. Racist.

The total package.

A non-public, progressive, woman went in blackface as Megyn Kelly to make fun of Megam Kelly. As a cautionary example. Opposed to the idea of blackface. Apollogized at the time and left the party. Got outed in the NYT two years later, life ruined.

Kimmel issues a non-apology apology years later: no consequences.

He's also totally insignificant to the context of our current state of affairs. That's why I personally feel he should be left alone, as I did with Al Franken, but, rules are rules, as dumb as they are. In no matter what millieu you sain something it must always be judged by the ever changing present standards.

Such existential angst in this thread! Truly, people wearing blackface is the defining issue of our time.

the thing i find interesting about this is that people are pretending it was some hidden secret. it was on the fucking man show. i remember this shit and i fucking hated that show.

Who had "existential angst" or "of our time" on their Robbo Bingo card of hackneyed, endlessly repeated phrases?

It was not a good show. Had a few funny moments here and there but that was all. I think the idea was solid but the writing sucked.

Well, considering Kimmel has a nightly television program promoting his Far Leftist viewpoint he is hardly "insignificant." He stopped doing comedy. He is an advocate who uses his talk show as a forum. That's not illegal. That's his choice. His employer approves. But that does mean hypocrisy will be piled on.

He has intentionally pursued having a political voice so pile on this stupid, female-hating, racist fuck.

It's certainly true he isn't funny anymore. Just an annoying pain in the ass. He seems like a nice enough guy. I used to get a kick out of the man show. Now I just turn to off button on when he's on

Kimmel forgot what brought him to the dance, Letterman-lite comedy.

Kimmel helped create the Left agenda - including the cancel culture - so he can live with the consequences.

As a comedian pushing boundaries and teeing up culture, society, norms, and politics is just fine and actually fills a critical role in society. Many of the greats have done so and made people think. But Kimmel decided to leave the comedy element out of his approach to, instead, become a straight up advocate for policy positions. That's when all is fair from a criticism standpoint. Same thing happened to Trump who had decades of public material for opponents to mine.

Kimmel was not just one of the hoards piling on in various cancel-culture attacks, he led the charge in many cases. He lived by tgevsword, he does by the sword, or it is all exposed for the hypocrisy it obviously was.

All Megan Kelly did was ask if all black-face, including occasions intended to be an homage were wrong. Kimmel 8s making the same argument, but not as a hypothetical, to excuse his blackface.

you just contradicted yourself several times.

The self immolation of Jimmy Kimmel is a continuing nightly spectacle.
