Sometimes I get so into the story that I forget this is an erotica website and an erotic story I'm telling, and then I have to try and not-so-clumsily plunk in the requisite number of sex scenes the smut zulus demand.

I think my chaptered stories are running around 30k per chapter now, and I try to have something sexy happen every 5 or 6k. It might be minor, but there's something.

Anyone else need to remind themselves to add sex to their damn stories once they get going?

As time has gone by I have found I'm enjoying the back story and conflict of the story to the point I feel like "Yeah, okay, time for a sex scene, the 1000th I've written at this point"

I've written stories of late where I've typed "brief sex scene here" and gone to the next chapter because I wanted to continue the story far more than I wanted a smut scene.

I think the sex hook comes early in my conceptualization and I don't think I've been writing along with no sex scene popping up at all.

Not me. The whole point of my stories is the circling around slowly, which gives me plenty of time to discover the personalities and motivations of my players, and makes the sex worth the wait.

My focus is generally on the emotional aspects of erotica. Not every chapter I write has explicit sexual content. For me, it's the spice, not the meal.

One of them I'm writing right now has sex everywhere, but it's mostly clinical stuff with a jaded prostitute. There are a couple of more detailed scenes where she's not on the job, but they're few and far between.

The other two I have on the front burner are both over 14k words with no sex yet. I'm at the point where the first scene happens in one, and nowhere near the only scene in the other.

Danica's World and Magic of the Wood for all three. I'm as often as not more interested in the story than the sex on those. I write most of my sex-heavy stuff as short stories in this name.

I feel like I could advance the plot in my series a lot better if my characters could just keep their pants on for a while.

For me and my stories, it's all about the sex. Or, more accurately, the kink -- whether it's sex, or public exposure, or something fetishy. Whatever it is, it's the point of the story, so I don't ever encounter this issue.

If the plot demands it, I put in some sex. But I don't brute force it. There are entire chapters in my "Mud & Magic" series without sex and my readers seem to be okay with that. In general, I write stories first and porn second.

I'm right with you there. If my characters didn't all have the sex drive of bonobos (especially the women), I'd have thousand chapters written by now, lol.

The sex I write very much depends on the characters I'm using. By this time, I've got many characters I enjoy telling stories through, and all of them think about sex differently. Keeps things a little fresh, while still familiar.

Depending on the character I select for my story, I'll often write the fuckscenes first, just to get them out of the way. Or because I've got a specific act in mind. But there are many, many recent stories of mine where sex definitely takes a backseat to story.

I rarely write anything erotic (at least for sharing here) which is why I haven't submitted anything in forever.

I legit have no actual idea how to fit sex into my next chapter and I think it's going to be a real problem for my readership.

I'm working on my first ever multi-chapter work for Lit. It starts and finishes with a bang, as it were, but my characters keep wandering off and adding more plot in the middle and their friends who were alluded to in passing demand to be fleshed out. Part of it is that the main characters need to have a big argument, and I don't like being nasty to them!

Have you considered changing where your chapter ends? Would flashback sex work? A masturbation scene?

I suspect no sex might be a problem for your Magnus-crazed, panty-tossing readership! You never know, though. I got a request today for a no-sex chapter (I think that was the intent) so my male lead can heap TLC on my female lead during her period. I did not know what to say to that. I'm going to guess that reader wasn't a Magnus groupie, though.

I can hardly restrain myself from being nasty to one of my characters. I have to keep myself from getting sidetracked with unpleasant situations for him to stumble into, or letting my other main character hand his ass to him all the time. It's probably a good sign, though, if you like your characters too much to make them suffer, right?

Madam, You are a good writer; one not requiring a sex scene to interest a reader.
It's literate enough.

If your readers are invested in your characters and intrigued by the narrative, it won’t be a problem. Forcing in a sex scene that doesn’t fit is worse than just not having one.

Yeah, they sometimes end up like brash commercial breaks interrupting the narrative in my case

I noticed

I noticed that as I've slowed the story down, gone 5k to 10k words before people start fucking, my scores have come up half a point. Instead of 4.2 or 4.3 area, I'm hitting 4.70 or so the past few times.

Takes your time and build up. There's no rush and people enjoy it more ... at least the voting public.

I can’t look at the scores on my submission list and discern any difference between those that include sex scenes and those that do not.

Sex and Lynn

It’s story first and sex afterwards and I believe the sex then fits in naturally. I have one story where the sex begins with the first word, others within the first thousand words, and a story in Romance with no sex at all. You shouldn’t have a formula for introducing sex into a story because the chances are it won’t seem right to the reader. I’m up to a ten thousand words with the story I’m writing at the moment and there won’t be any sex for at least another five thousand words.

ps. message for Lynn. I enjoy your stories but it’s been five years. How much longer? I’m sure I’m not alone.

Thanks, HP.

Thank you. :rose:

I added Broken Butterflies in 2017 but yeah, it's been a while. I have completed stories sitting on the computer. Maybe they'll find the path to Lit.
