Why is this the first time (year) I’ve ever heard of it?

Is it some new thing?

Some companies are actually giving a paid holiday for it.

Is it merely a means of placating or catering to a section of the population?

I really have zero idea.

This is a can or worms that was best left unopened...

You are on your own.

See you next February... ;) ;)

I think it’s curious that I’ve never heard of it, it's a legitimate question.

If it’s just some “white guilt” gimmick that is suddenly recognized by corporations and the mass media, that’s sort of ridiculous.

You can't know everything...it's a real black thing. Us whites don't know it cause we are blissfully unaware of significant black history. I know a bunch of stuff and didn't know this one either. No foul...except in the way Trump used it.

If you didn't know, then how in the world did Trump....hmmm? He was told it by the racists he watches and listens to on Fox, Brietbart, StormFront, etc. He didn't know it either. He was manipulated as per usual.

I just can’t remember the media making a thing of it before, and to me that seems “off”.

See what I mean?
If you don't yet, it will soon become painfully clear...

This is what happens when I make coffee with my eyes closed, I used a Death Wish pod by mistake, the stuff should probably be a controlled substance.

I’m all wired up.

I should probably get someone to keep an eye on me in the mornings, I’m obviously not capable of functioning on my own.

Is the failed, made-up holiday of Kwanzaa going to be a thing this year, or will it be dropped like all of other get-out-the-black-vote-but-not-for-the-increasingly-popular-Trump efforts after November 4th?

I’m celebrating Festivus.

The “airing of grievances” should be really great this year.

Huh?

39% that is a great approval number?....well beats me, you are the one who claims Maths....:D

Vox having to explain the holiday to its readers so good little progressives can be up to speed on the latest "gotcha" attempt: https://www.vox.com/2020/6/18/21294825/history-of-juneteenth

"the country is getting ready to celebrate the 155th anniversary of one of its earliest liberation moments: Juneteenth."

What are load of bullshit. "The country" was by no means getting ready to "celebrate" a holiday that none of Vox readers had ever heard of.

What, precisely, makes the "155th anniversary" more important than, say the 150th when the historic "black" president was still in office?

How did he "celebrate" it? Was he even aware of its historic significance? Did he suspend his presidential campaign(s) in reverence?

What about HRC? How did she mark the day during her campaign? What about her husband known in fun as "the first black president?"

Lot of presidential campaigns in 155 years. How many acknowledged the day, let alone took a time-out to avoid "defiling" it?

It would seem that Biden supporters are desperate to avoid the stark contrast in enthusism between is supporters and Trump's.

Any excuse at all to avoid any public displays of support for Trump. They have made "Make America Great Again" hate speech and the wearing of campaign merch the equivalent of the white robes and hoods of the Democrats of yore.

None of this adds up to supporting the false confidence they are posturing with about their chances in the upcoming election.

Juneteenth has been celebrated for as long as I can remember.

Like other holidays and festivals the real meaning sometimes gets lost or overshadowed over time but, eventually, traditions get reestablished.

REAL holidays have furniture sales...

... like the wildly unpopular Columbus Day.

Seeing Juneteenth get politicized and used to divide people is sad.
