Trump: “Testing may be overrated and the reason for the high number of US cases.”

Yes, folks, that’s what he said yesterday. With a straight face. This is the moron who controls the world’s most powerful military force. Sleep well, America. Your leader will keep you safe and sound.

"When you test, you have a case. When you test, you find something is wrong with people. If we didn't do any testing we would have very few cases."

I think the time is long overdue for Fauci to pull away from the Trump clowns, attach himself to one of the governor consortiums pulling states together to work the issue, and sound off loud and clear.

Fauci has had this job since the dawn of the AIDS epidemic, so it's pretty clear he believes in the importance of his current work and wants to do it until he retires (which at age 79 could be any time, I suppose).

The funny thing about Trump is that while he's obviously extremely dishonest about virtually everything, where you sometimes get the truth from him is when he casually admits to political motivations that a career politician would have the sense to keep to himself. Go all the way back to the beginning of March, when he admitted he didn't want the cruise ship to dock because it would increase the number of cases on our books (back when 1000 total cases still seemed like a lot). It was completely crass and heartless, but that doesn't register with him.

My first thought was "five bucks it hits 90k by the end of the day".

And now I think I might be a sociopath.

Back when Ohio had exactly 16 counties (out of 88 total) that had not recorded a Covid-19 case yet, a few of us on Twitter had a bracket-style tournament where we guessed at which one would come out "victorious" (be the last one with no cases).

Qatar has become the first relatively populous country (population of at least 1 million) where at least 1 percent of the people have been diagnosed with Covid-19. The issue there is the crapholes that their temp workers reside in.

ah, fuck!

A third wave ?

:(

Then, again, that is probably an optimistic prediction, if the discussion is about America.
As it is, I am wishing that I saved some of my pre- 20's collection of dark silks and velvets.
Dressing, according to early episodes of Downton Abbey's funeral for the expected heir, and
her FWB - Victorian mourning seems appropriate, since it is 2020, not 1918, and this time-
Science was not allowed to intervene. 100 years of medical progress, wasted.

"We have, I call it, the super duper missile," said Trump.

"And I heard the other night—17 times faster than what they have right now,
when you take the fastest missile we have right now."

“I call it the super duper missile.”

An actual quote by the sitting president of the United States.

He can't even be trusted with information about our defense system.

The new COVID czar. No problem here, right?:

“Former pharmaceutical company executive Slaoui stepped down from his position on the board of directors of biotech company Moderna Inc., based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. But he is still holding some 155,000 Moderna stock options, according to Security and Exchange Commission filings, worth more than $10 million as of Friday, reported Business Insider.

Slaoui’s economic interest in the company could influence government support for Moderna over other companies that may be more successful in their hunt for a vaccine.

Moderna last month also announced it received $483 million in federal funding for vaccine development, which sent its stocks up 15%, CNBC reported.”

A paradox of good government is that leaders get more credit for handling a disaster than they ever do for preventing a disaster from occurring:

After more than 6 weeks of closed schools and businesses, and staying at home, some people are wondering whether it's been worth it.

A new Drexel University study says it has paid off.

Drexel's experts from Urban Health Collaborative and the Big Cities Health Coalition used real-life numbers to estimate how many lives were saved, and how many hospitalizations didn't happen in 30 cities around the country

For Philadelphia, it estimates that 45 days of being shut down and doing social distancing spared 6200 lives, and kept 57,000 people out of hospitals than if life went on as usual.
