Asked about Fauci's warning yesterday about reopening too soon,
Trump said, "Look, he wants to play all sides of the equation."
Pressed, he said, "I was surprised by his answer, actually...
It's just, to me, it's not an acceptable answer, especially
when it comes to schools."

shudda heard rush limbaugh on the topic of fauci

disgusting isn't the word

limbaugh, tucker carlson, and even trump himself retweeting tweets about time to fire fauci, seem hell-bent on sending the message 'fauci out' to their base... guess they don't like the fact fauci polls as way more trusted over trump

At current rates, Russia will have the second largest Covid-19 caseload on the planet no later than Sunday.

And Brazil is closing fast: it will likely be no worse than third by the end of the month. Something about authoritarianism seems to make this virus unusually problematic.

All of this.

Dr. Wrong Again Fauci is looking for his next gig. Can't blame him. Time to strike while the proverbial iron is hot.

Probably thinking some high-paying media position to cash in on this 15 minutes of fame. Hope he has an agent who can take advantage of the momentum.

How many Covid-related deaths are acceptable to you if the lockdowns end prematurely?

No deaths are acceptable. But they are inevitable.

The US has about 24,000 deaths per month, on average. That death total could be cut by thousands (probably half or more) by drastically lowering speed limits; eliminating access to alcohol; requiring 10,000 fast food places, restaurants, and grocery stores to remove unhealthy items, regulating hours of sedentary activity (watching screens, etc.); outlawing soda, beer and cigarettes; requiring exercise;...etc.

How many preventable deaths are acceptable?

It's not about authoritarianism, it's more about distrust of government and authorities in general. And, more specifically, about the anti-science propaganda campaign pushed hard by Russia for some twenty years now (to be fair, I don't know how much that is relevant in Brazil's case, but I suppose nowadays Brazil and USA are about the same).

I choose whether or not I consume alcohol, tobacco, soda, fast food, unhealthy food, etc.
I choose whether or not I want to be sedentary or not.

I have no choice as to whether I contract the corona virus or not...I'm at the mercy of "rugged individualists" who feel their "freedom to infect" transcends all other peoples' choices.

it's like being the designated driver for the night and getting killed by a drunk driver trying to get your drunk friends home safely.

Shakes my head at your stupidity. You know what "prevents" preventable deaths? National health care systems. Why do you not want to prevent preventable deaths? Because you don't give a fuck about anyone but yourself. [/thread]

600,000 usa'ers die every year from cancer. Can't choose your genetics. :)

One of my fellow grad students was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin's. They gave her 6 months to live. She returned to France...and was cured in 6 months. Coincidence? Chance? Luck? Or maybe a health care system that works?

Argue for your limitations and so they shall be yours.

I've already beat cancer once. I'm on borrowed time. :)

are you fucking crazy or what? fauci was the only sane voice an aids, since then he's been the authority on ebola, et al. you're such an idiot, you have no idea of history. are you really this stupid or is donald telling you to be?

I think the time is long overdue for Fauci to pull away from the Trump clowns, attach himself to one of the governor consortiums pulling states together to work the issue, and sound off loud and clear.

Trump isn't so much of a moron not to understand that that alone would deep six his reelection bid based on a Grim Reaper do-less-than-nothing response to what's just going to keep on taking lives because there's no federal plan to either stem the virus or not kill the economy completely by killing the workers getting no safety support to go back to work.

Yesterday’s meditation was on death and there are two certainties in this world we all have to face: (1) we are going to die; and (2) we do not know when that death may occur. It could be today. When you look at it that way, we all are on borrowed time.

The point of the meditation was to be more present in the now. Which I’m sure I’m not the only one struggling to do as we sit and wait to see if social distancing is working, if there will be a another wave of it, or two or three.

Trump is trashing Rick Bright, the doctor that refused to be corrupted.

(Trump has a tendency to fire people before they testify)

“Our window of opportunity is closing,” Bright says in prepared testimony submitted
to a subcommittee of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. “If we fail to
develop a national coordinated response, based in science, I fear the pandemic will get
far worse and be prolonged, causing unprecedented illness and fatalities. While it is
terrifying to acknowledge the extent of the challenge that we currently confront,
the undeniable fact is there will be a resurgence of the COVID19 this fall,
greatly compounding the challenges of seasonal influenza and putting an
unprecedented strain on our health care system. Without clear planning and
implementation of the steps that I and other experts have outlined, 2020
will be darkest winter in modern history.”

Monday, Mitch McConnell had claimed that the current White House had not been
briefed by the previous administration on preparing for a pandemic at the scale of
the novel coronavirus.

So, always be at peace with your actions. Easy enough.

Cheeto didn't tell him to be like this...this is the right wing fuckboi sauce finally coming out of his deep dish layered pizza that he needed to show everyone because Modern Age Captain Trips showed up at his door, rung his doorbell and took all of his convenient invisible first-world knapsack of privileges away without even leaving an extra life coupon for the next order.

Being glib in the face of fear is all the knock-kneed moxie these guys got left. So they keep on being dismissive about the verity of this virus.
